Women body building took quite a hit when the number of participants and audience dwindled down near the 1980s. This was mostly due to the fact that women were being told that they didn’t look nice with huge bulging muscles. While this is totally wrong it did give form to a new type of bodybuilding which was much more subtle and gracious. Figure contests were types of contests which looked for toned body rather than muscles. This paved the way for the contests we see today. Figure contests are not just getting up on stage and doing a few poses. Figure contestants are required to go through a series of poses and then they have to perform a dance routine with grace. The amount of grace and fluidity shown in that dace routine determines the body’s fitness level. It is not just about figure. It is also about the fitness of the body. When you are applying for such a contest remember that you have to make your body flexible to a certain point. This will help you achieve the fluid motions while dancing. These factors cannot be learnt over night. A lot of dedicated hard work and training is needed for you to achieve something in this field. But it is not impossible either. You need to start early and train for a few months even if you are a regular exercise doing woman.

These contests are available on amateur and pro levels. While amateur levels can be a little easier to train for pro level contests are very hard. The prizes are also that big. You can be sure that your hard work will be paid off. Besides the fact that the prizes are amazing you will also get a massive amount of satisfaction when you actually stand on stage and go through the routines. It is a self evaluation as well to see how far you have come in terms of your body. Physique Contests are held all throughout the year with little or no sign up costs. This means that you can participate without blowing off a lot of money. But remember to start well in advance and make sure that you get a trainer who will guide you through the training. Figure contests are extremely popular and you will be even given chances to reach national and international scales if you work hard enough.
