Since 1992, Subaru has produced the Subaru Impreza, a four-door sedan, five-door hatchback, and two-door coupe, available in three different models from 1995-2001.

First-Generation

The Subaru Impreza, manufactured between 1992 and 2000, was introduced in late 1992 and offered seven variants, including LX, GL, Sport, 4WD Turbo, 22B, Terzo, and P, with engine choices including 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter, 1.8-liter, 2.0-liter, and turbocharged options. In 1994, a 2.0-liter turbo Impreza rally car was introduced, followed by new 2.0-liter variants in 1995. All Imprezas were 4WD, and in 1996, a sports model was added to suit the GL-turbo market segment. In 1997 and 1998, minor changes were made, including the 2000 2-door P1.

Second-Generation

The second-generation Subaru Impreza, produced between 2000 and 2007, featured an increased body size, improved cabin space, and elevated front seats. Production ceased with the introduction of the Coupe, and continued with the four-door sedan and five-door hatchback. The Subaru Impreza Second generation featured various engine options, including 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter, 2.0-liter, and turbocharged options, with 4-speed CVT automatic or 5-speed manual transmissions.

Third-Generation

Subaru produced third-generation Imprezas from 2007 to 2011, featuring standard non-turbocharge Impreza and turbocharged WRX at the 2007 New York Auto Show. The 2007 Subaru Impreza, known for its reliability, safety, and popularity, has improved upon its predecessors. This model features window frames on the doors, providing a solid feel and reducing noise, vibration, and harshness levels, making it even better than previous models.

The 2007 Impreza was available in a 5-door hatchback and 4-door sedan, with flat-four petrol engine variants of 1.5-liter (EL15), 2.0-liter (EJ20), and 2.5-liter (EJ25), with 4-speed continuous variable transmission or 5-speed manual transmission. The third-generation Subaru Impreza WRX was sold as WRX in some markets, but retained its full name in Japan, America, and the UK. It featured a 2.5-liter engine with a TD04 turbocharger, producing 169 KW at 5600 rpm. In 2008, Subaru improved the 2009 model, achieving 198KW and a new acceleration record of 0-97 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The WRX STI was introduced in 2007.

Fourth-Generation

The Subaru Impreza, a fourth-generation hatchback and saloon, competes with Toyota Auris, VW Golf, Nissan Tiida, Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, and Mazda Axela. The new generation of vehicles retains many of their previous features but increases the wheelbase by 2.5cm, improving boot space and legroom. They are more aerodynamic and have a smooth design. All models come with automatic air-conditioning, seven airbags, six speakers, Bluetooth, iPod, USB, and audio input jacks.

The fourth-generation Subaru Imprezas, produced from 2011 to 2016, featured a 4-door sedan and 5-door hatchback, with 1.6-liter DOHC or 2.0-liter DOHC engines. Available as 2012 models, they had a five-speed manual transmission or a 6-speed automatic CVT, with a 2.0-liter engine achieving a 20% fuel consumption cut.

Fifth-Generation

In March 2016, Subaru unveiled the 2017 Subaru Impreza, the first model of the fifth generation, under the Subaru Global Platform. This model features increased rigidity and a lower center of gravity. The 2017 Impreza features a revised 2.0-liter direct-injection boxer-four engine, with 80% of parts revamped, producing 112KW. Subaru's CVT transmission has been improved, and a 5-speed manual transmission is available. The engine improves acceleration, power delivery, and emissions.

The fifth-generation model boasts a longer and wider wheelbase, enhancing legroom in both front-seats and rear-seats, compared to the fourth-generation model. The 2017 Subaru Impreza offers Symmetrical AWD, EyeSight suite safety functions, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard features, enhancing driving feel, handling, interior space, and infotainment capabilities.

Finally

The Subaru Impreza is a reliable family car suitable for urban driving, with decent fuel efficiency and a longer lifespan when properly maintained. Its symmetrical AWD makes it a more appealing choice compared to competitors. You can now visit the Subaru Impreza stocklist for more available and affordable models from which you can choose.
