Explore New Adventure with Subaru Forester

by Masashi S. JDM Enthusiast

The Subaru Forester is a compact crossover SUV produced by Subaru which was introduced in 1997 and is presently in its fifth generation. In 2022, the Forester received a major upgrade and is available in 6 trim levels: Base, Premium, Sport, Wilderness, Limited, and Touring.

The facelifted Subaru Forester comes with an all-new 2022 Forester Wilderness which includes an 8.0-inch touchscreen, dual-zone automatic climate control, water-repellent upholstery, forward-facing off-road camera, reverse automatic emergency braking, and all-terrain tires. It also includes a nine-speaker Harman Kardon stereo, navigation, and a power liftgate.

Now, let’s take a look at the 5 pros and 5 cons of the 2022 Subaru Forester when considering buying a new one.

5 Pros

All-wheel Drive

The 2022 Forester comes with an all-wheel drive as standard, which makes it different from the rest of the class, as AWD comes pricey in most rivals. It also comes with hill descent control and an X-Mode system that improves the car’s grip on slippery roads.

Standard Driver-assist Features

The Subaru Forester comes with several driver-assist technologies including Adaptive cruise control, Lane centering assist, Lane departure warning, Lane keep assist, Rearview camera, and Forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking. Extra driver assistance features Blind spot monitoring, Driver drowsiness monitoring, Rear cross traffic alert, Reverse automatic emergency braking, and Lane change assist.

Strengthened Off-road Ability with Superior Ground Clearance

The new Forester beats almost every class rival in offroading abilities and comes with 8.7 inches of ground clearance that can traverse muddy, snowy, and light roads. While the Wilderness trim has 9.2 inches of ground clearance that boosts its abilities even further.

Spacious Cargo Area

The base Forester offers 818 liters of cargo space and 2101 liters with the second-row seats folded flat. Other trims have 761 liters and 1956 liters, respectively. The cargo area has a high roof and clever cargo layout which gives more space even for large items.

Spacious Seats

The 2022 Subaru Forester is a five-seat car with a spacious cabin and good visibility of the road ahead. Both front and rear seats are supportive and comfortable, with plenty of head- and legroom.

5 Cons

Average Engine

The Forester comes with a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 182 hp paired with CVT and is merely so average. Although it’s certainly not adequate to play down the car’s standout areas.

Limited Tow Rating

The 2022 Forester has a maximum towing capacity of just 680 kilograms, while the Wilderness comes with 1360 kilograms which is below average compared to other SUVs.

Noise In The Cabin

The 2022 Subaru Forester is not very well insulated as some noise does penetrate into the cabin and the most notable sound is the vehicle’s engine roaring.

Outdated Infotainment Features

The new Forester offers an intuitive 6.5-inch Starlink infotainment system that is simple, easy to use, and responds well to inputs, a 6.5-inch touch screen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, USB ports, HD Radio, and satellite radio. Though this system feels outdated and needs to be upgraded.

Awkward Stop-start System

The 2022 Subaru Forester has an auto stop-start system which received some mixed reviews. The owners don't feel like the system lowers fuel consumption, and the regular start-stop sequences of the engine are getting tiresome due to the engine vibration on restart. It is worsened because the system can’t be permanently disabled.

Generally

The 2022 Subaru Forester may have some faults but it also offers a comfortable cabin, spacious cargo, and plenty of features that will absolutely satisfy SUV owners. It delivers a feel and rugged attitude that is indeed worth its price. You can check the Subaru Forester stocklist for a more available and affordable model that suits you.
