Everything You Should Know About Mole Mapping

What is
mole mapping?
Mole mapping
is a screening test to find skin cancer as early as possible.
Mole mapping, also known as automatic whole-body mapping,
involves a specialized computer taking photos of your entire body and then
combining them into a complete image of your body. This reference image is then
compared to the full-body photograph during your follow-up visit. The
artificial intelligence in the computer will compare your images and highlight
which injuries are the same, which are new, and which are changing. Then you
can track them from year to year to see the changes.
Follow-up times vary based on your risk factors. Often, it
is suggested to come annually, but you may be asked to return sooner based on
your medical history.
Benefits
of Mole Mapping
Mole mapping can help identify skin cancers early and, in
some cases, reduce the need for biopsies. People at high risk for skin cancer
should talk to their doctor about having a mole mapping done.
Many cases of skin cancer develop as people age, says Dr Maryam Zamani. As more people
live longer, we will see more cases of skin cancer. Mole mapping is a powerful
tool to aid in the fight against cancer.
