There are many devices that can divide the connection between two separate computers simultaneously, these devices are generally used in organization where there are large numbers of work stations and network has to be divided among different user with different needs. There are several devices that can be used to divide the connection over a network for ex HUB, A network hub is a central device that is used to connect several computers. The hubs usually comes up with 4, 8 or sometimes 16 Ethernet ports. There are other devices also one of them is Ethernet splitter which is discussed below.

An ethernet splitter is a device that is used to split a single network connection so that two or more computers can be connected and can access the Internet connection simultaneously. A splitter can also create separate connections for other computers on a single network, which can reduce the overall amount of wiring that is required to setup a network. Ethernet splitters are a good way to add several connections without cabling the whole place, and those extra new connections can come be useful for purposes other than new users.

Ethernet splitters comes in different configurations and for different purposes. At the lower level, these splitters connect two Cat5 cables to a single LAN connection using a Y-connector. They work in combinations with a second Y splitter and are then connected to a hub or other device to create an additional connection. The system uses the seperate wire connections in Ethernet connections that are not used in standardized connections. This system is mainly useful when a user need an extra connection but the cost for pulling cable is prohibitive.

More significant is a full duplex Ethernet Tap Splitter .The FX-Tap to TX Full Duplex Tap Splitter can be inappropriate for monitoring and managing IP traffic to a specific device. It works like a two way communication, one IP connection goes to the destination device, while the second IP connection connects to a network analyzer. This device was basically designed so that it minimizes or completely eradicate the impact on the throughput of traffic by the splitter, and in case of power failure the traffic continues to flow ineffectively. Since we can disengage the detection device without actually affecting the actual connection, this device also allows a networker to plug in different diagnostic devices without disrupting the natural flow of communication communications.

However,  the main disadvantage of  an ethernet splitters is that it  cannot resolve the collision that occurs in the network, the main reason for the collision to occur  is that several computers are connected to the device that are using the same network resources simultaneously.
