Educational Technology and Apps for Kids

by Alexandra Grayson writer

In a time where violent video games and annoying apps fill our lives, it’s nice when education and technology meet to create some useful items to assist kids and their learning while also providing entertainment. This list brings to light some of the more popular and compelling apps for kids available today. Also visit our site for more information.

Leo’s Pad Appisode 1
By using the ability to pick the correct colors, shapes, and letters, this app allows kids to join the adventure with Leonardo da Vinci and Galileo as they interact with the characters to decipher words within the stars, construct a telescope, and develop a catapult successfully. As the children conquer one of multiple mini-games within the program, the games progressively get more difficult. There is a parent’s portion on the game to keep track of the child’s progress.

Dragon Box

Introducing children to the concepts of algebra, the Dragon Box app applies basic concepts without overwhelming the user. For example, the first portion of the app simply asks the child to move cards around the screen to segregate a box on one side. Throughout the game, children are introduced to simplifying algebraic equations, along with higher levels bringing in math symbols and numbers.

Lee Paso a Paso

Whether Spanish is a child’s primary language, or if learning it as a second language is the educational goal, this app is a step by step learning tool to introduce kids to the Spanish language. Tools include sounding out syllables to pronounce words and phrases, all while rewarding successes with prizes that help the child advance through the multiple levels within the game. Using over 200 words and 800 images, this app is the necessary first step towards introducing a bi-lingual curriculum to children of all ages.

Dr. Panda’s Supermarket

The latest in the Dr. Panda series (Daycare & Restaurant), the Supermarket shows children how to shop for items from an organized list, how to properly clean up spills within the grocery store, using shapes to organize different shaped boxes.
