About Eat Right India

In the preamble to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) is determined to confirm the availability of safe and wholesome food for the people in India. Therefore, FSSAI has embarked on a large-scale undertaking to transform the country’s food system in order to ensure safe, healthy and endurable food for all Indians through the ‘Eat Right India’ movement.

Eat Right India Among Top Visionaries

The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI)  asserted that it has been awarded the 'Food System Vision Prize' for its 'Eat Right India' movement's vision, along with nine additional finalists.

Further, It has Announced by The Rockefeller Foundation, the prize is for groups across the world that have come to be an inspiring vision of the regenerative and healthy food system that they aspire to establish by the year 2050.

Also, the 'Eat Right India' movement is a combined effort of all stakeholders in the food environment. It comprises regulatory activities as well as initiatives targeted to food businesses and customers, it added.

FSSAI Registration Performing Several Functions

FSSAI has been required by the FSSAI Act, 2006 for accomplishing the following functions:

* Drafting of Regulations to lay down the Standards and approaches in relation to articles of food and stipulating appropriate system of enforcing various standards thus notified.

* Laying down tools and guidelines for accreditation of certification bodies employed in the certification of food safety management systems for food businesses.

* Also, The Food Operators have been compelled to obtain FSSAI Registration for their respective businesses.

* Laying down method and guidelines for accreditation of laboratories and notification of the accredited laboratories.

* To furnish scientific advice and technical support to Central Government and State Governments in the matters of crafting the policy and rules in regions which have a direct or indirect bearing of food safety and nourishment.

Objectives of Eat India Vision

Eat Right India's vision for 2050 attempts to create a culture of safe, healthy and endurable food for all and to deal with its numerous public health, economic and environmental challenges.

Strong networks and creative tools have been put in site, so that the Eat Right initiatives can be emulated at scale across the length and the breadth of the country by states.

Further Clarification by FSSAI

To further bring synergies and alliance in the area of food safety and nutrition, a Memorandum of Understanding was approved between FSSAI and Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) for attempting collaborative research and evidence dissemination in this space.Know more about Eat Right India Among Top Visionaries for the Food Systems Vision Prize
