I was not one of those easy learners or the born talented one when it came to driving.  It took me years to learn before I could actually drive on real roads in real traffic. Even after learning from couple of driving schools, hiring private drivers for practice sessions, there was hardly any confidence building up.

After all, its not so easy to learn and drive if you stay in Delhi NCR .To add to all this, I went to Pune for my further studies. Two years away from the wheels made the task even difficult. When I came back, I had a job almost 20 kms away from my home and the route with as messy traffic as one can imagine. There was not alternative left for me but to learn to drive in that crazy traffic.
Finally, my little sister came to my rescue, and yes, she was born with that talent of driving. She learnt it all by herself without any help of driving schools or professional drivers. I actually learnt driving in the real traffic with her help.

This was all 5-6 years back. At that time automatic cars were not a rage, in fact the automatic options were available only with the pricey cars. My daddy was sweet enough to get me a new car, as I had to go to office. I learnt driving on a WagonR and my daddy thought it was the best option for an amateur like me, so the car I got was the boxy wagonR.  At that time I found driving the most difficult task on the planet. It required so much of coordination, managing the clutch, brake, accelerator, and the gearshifts. And on top of that, managing the car through the traffic. Goshhh. I used to just follow any car moving ahead of me, as changing lanes and overtaking were not my cup of tea.

Now, driving has become a lot easier. The companies have realized the gap and have been introducing the automatic variants even in the smaller and not so pricey cars. The automatic versions of these cars are not as smooth and great as those of the expensive cars, but the convenience they offer is just mind-blowing. There are numerous options available today even if you are looking for automatic cars in India under 6 lakhs.

I wish I had these options available during my learning time, my life would have a lot easier.
