Drama is all about creation. It combines the elements of a creative mind and emotional intelligence, and gives rise to a grandeur that appeals the audience in unimaginable ways. Drama has always been an integral part of the lives of people and this is why, several schools too include it in the curriculum of the students, right from the beginning.

Further, during high schools and colleges, students go for specific theatre training to learn the detailed aspects of drama and also acquire the knowledge of different genres related to it. Although drama already is an independent genre when we talk in the context of film, there are several sub genres inside it. Drama typically deals with narrative fiction but there are different kinds of narration that are involved in it.

  • Crime drama: The themes of a crime drama revolve around law enforcements, legal systems, criminals and their instincts. It showcases all the crimes that we read about in the news. A crime drama puts light n different kinds of crimes and also different kinds of criminals we have in our society.
  • Historical drama: There’s no denying that our history has a lot to offer to us- thanks to the dramatic events related to monarchy, independence and wars of the nations. A historical drama highlights such popular and sometimes even lesser known historical events- enlightening us about our evolution.
  • Horror drama: A horror drama deals in dramatizing the horrific situations- which may be fiction or non-fiction in nature. Even the emotional cries and frightened sobs are dramatic in a horror drama and is a major part of the film industry.
  • Melodrama: This is like exaggerating an emotion or a situation in general. Be it tragedy, illness, comedy or hardship, a melodrama would depict the heightened emotion to create impact. Films based on melodrama are unrealistic but are used as tools of entertainment. 
  • Romantic drama: All kinds of love relationships are showcased in a romantic drama. This again might be overemphasizing the elements of a romantic love but remains a favorite genre of a major part of audience.
