Downfall of Research in Indian Institutes of Technologies

Since many decades Indians have been recognized for their knowledge and workmanship in the technical fields. Several MNCs including Microsoft, Apple and Facebook etc. likes to have students from Indian Institute of Technologies and other reputed institutions. But the world ranking 2015 of universities and institutions have shown that the level of education and research is decreasing.  This article covers some of the bitter truths:

 

Research Awareness

 

Maximum of our Indian institutions have not adequate knowledge of research requirements. They don’t have idea about the goal of research and don’t even have knowledge to link their research to industrial requirements. There is an important reason that Indian institutions are not giving importance to the world rankings and student to faculty ratio. In India student to faculty ratio is a big issue which is hard to overcome because more student on less number of faculties leads to improper way of knowledge sharing methods. If we compare the world ranking with Indian institutions then India have only 11 institutions in top 200 where as china and Japan have more than 50 institutions in world 200 ranking.

 

International Level Research and Publication

 

When you ask from most of the Indian institutions even from IITs about the research condition they will say “Yes they are doing research on many research areas and they have a number of students, those are working with their concerned research mentors.” But the condition is different from these scenarios. There are many Indian institutions where the faculties are not available to handle the world class research projects. The students at this institution have no idea about the good quality paper publication. Therefore in these institutes there should be a separate faculty who can guide students to publish their work in international level good quality publication house. 

 

The Indian Institutions should not focus only on the contemporary research methodologies but should ignite an era of research among the students by encouraging them for the research activities so that the research done from the IITs get paid by the industries. The research carried out at IITs does not even meet the standards of academia of European countries while product development through Indian Academic Research is still a dream to dream for.
