Does it Matter if it is a Blog or an Article?

When developing content for client businesses, content writing service companies come across a multitude of content requirements. Some may require a blog, some may request an article, while others may look to you to provide a knowledgeable suggestion as to which will be more appropriate to develop. In this case, it is vital for content writing companies to clearly know the difference between the two. Here are some key difference between the two -

1.    Style of writing – Blogs tend to be more conversational and personal in nature. Most authors write in first person style (occurrences of ‘I’, ‘me’, ‘my’ etc.). In comparison, articles are more formally written and more in third-party style without the use of ‘I’ or ‘me’.

For instance, a blog may write “My personal experience with this syrup is that it is tasty yet induces drowsiness”. On the other hand an article may write “This syrup is tasty but needs to be taken in moderation as it might induce drowsiness in most cases”

Being informal, however, doesn’t mean that blogs can be unprofessional. Blogs and articles both serve the need to provide information to readers.

2.    Audience – Blog readers discover and read a blog just because they came across it and liked what they saw. Readers are more spontaneous in their reading. Articles however are more targeted forms of informative writing. They cater to a specific audience type and might not have the generic coverage a blog enjoys.

3.    Development timeArticle writing companies would vouch that articles take more time to develop than a blog. Continuing with point#2 above, while a blog reader isn’t looking for in-depth information, writers can provide superficial insights with a commitment to cover more, later. For articles, however, writers have to carry out in-depth research to cover the topic in more detail.

4.    Business or SEO – From an SEO purpose, articles give more scope to highlight a business’ product or services. Unless blogs are ranked very high, they cannot match the exposure articles get. However blogs are easier to develop and will help a website put up fresh content on a periodic basis. If the emphasis is on quantity, then a blog is the way to go. If well-researched, in-depth write-ups are needed, then articles are a better choice.

These pointers will facilitate your content writing company to come across as an insightful team of professionals who know what they are doing, and thus, gain a better level of trust with their client.
