Do You Know The Basics Of Growing Mushrooms?

by John Carter Fungushead
Unlike the general conception that growing mushrooms are a time-consuming process. With so many various techniques available on the market, one can be frustrated with which technique to use. However, with many advancements going on with the mushroom growing process, it is relatively easy to produce commercially available mushroom species in indoor or outdoor spaces. As a beginner, all you have to do is be familiar with mushroom cultivation's basic techniques and principles. Hence, first, you have to have a comprehensive understanding of the growing life cycle of mushrooms.

What is the growing life cycle of mushrooms?

Generally, many know that mushrooms have a stem and cap. However, its growth life cycles are highly influenced by a complex network of mycelium, which is rather massive than mushrooms. Mycelium is an essential part you have to know about for growing mushrooms, which works as an equivalent to the plant root system, where mycelium is the plant and mushrooms are fruits. The mushroom life cycle involves about five stages of phases, beginning with a fungal spore that matures into a fruiting body completing the life cycle. Then the fruiting body releases new spores that lead to creating a new life cycle all over again.

What does cultivating mushrooms involve?

Get mushroom spawnCultivating mushrooms involves a similar mushroom life cycle process but with some tweaking in the process to get maximum yield. The first step is to obtain spores and spawn for growing mushrooms. Generally, most use generates for speeding up the mushroom growing process. Regardless of what you use, spores or spawns, you must prepare a mushroom substrate so that mycelium can grow. Know that different species of mushrooms grow on different substrates. So choose a substrate according to the mushroom spores.

*Inoculate the mushroom substrate

In the inoculation step, you will be introducing your mushroom spores or spawns with the substrates. Make sure to do it under the sterile condition to minimize the chance of getting molds. Once the substrate inoculation is done, you have to put in it an incubation phase. This incubation phase involves placing the substrate in a warm dark place and leaving it for a few weeks or months to let the mycelium complete the colonization of the substrate to end the process.

*Placing mushroom in fruiting condition

Once the incubation period is finished, put the substrate into fruiting condition. Just cut open the bag of the substrate to expose it to the fresh air and keep it in a moist condition throughout the day. After a few days, you can see the mushrooms growing and becoming mature. After the growing mushrooms process completes, you can harvest the mushroom according to the species' harvest time.

Now you can see how easy it is to grow mushrooms with the fundamentals. You can learn about different techniques to maximize the yield from professionals. Check out FUNGUSHEAD to buy mushroom spores of different species at an affordable price.
