Do You Fancy A DIY Table Lamp Made of Marble Tiles?

by Paul Toomey Marketing Manager

If you have admired smart marble lamps and considered the elevated prices, why not make one? Materials are not so costly and labor is minimal. All it will take is some hours and the result is a cool table lamp cost effectively done.

Materials required

Ø  5 units of Marble baseboard tile, 4”X12”

Ø  Ruler and Permanent marker

Ø  Drill with 3/8-inch bit for tile

Ø  Silicone caulk

Ø  A Tile saw

Ø  Adhesive for the stone

Ø  A Tape and Lamp kit

Ø  1/8-inch IP 6" threaded rod

Ø  Brass rod and vase cap

Ø  Felt Pad

1: Get the Measurement of the Hole for the Lamp Cord

Putting one tile flat on a table and one at the side, you get the width of 43/8 inches. The center measures 23/16 inches, one inch from the bottom.

2: Drill the Hole required for the Lamp Cord

Put the tile immersed in wood in water. Drill the tile with a 3/8 inch tile drill bit. After drying, apply silicone caulk to the opening edges.

3: Cut Two squares

Measure and mark then cut two squares with a table saw each 3 ½ inches X 3 ½ inches. They will form the top and bottom of the lamp.

4: Now the Lamp Assembly hole has to be drilled

Measure and mark the center of the top square and drill a hole with the 3/8 inch tile drill.

5: Put the Tiles together

You need the permanent adhesive for assembling the stone.

6: Put the Base and Sides together

You can use tape until the adhesive sets. First, place the lamp cord hole tile flat on a table. Now, put the bottom square on the straight side with one side straight and one beveled.

7: Assemble the Sides now

It looks like a box when the bevel edge overlaps the square. Assemble the other side and you have beveled edges on four corners.

8: Use a Vase Cap and Tube

A vase cap along with a brass tube would cover the 6-inch threaded rod.

9: Wiring of the Lamp

Use the instructions provided for the wiring of the lamp. The wire passes through the hole and the threaded rod.

10: The Lamp is almost complete

Use a little adhesive to seal all the edges and then insert the last tile.

11: The Bottom needs felt

Protect the base with felt against surfaces. The lamp is ready when the adhesive is dry.
