With the upcoming advances in virtual and augmented reality, there is a lot of talk about how the world will change in the next few years. While there is excitement building around the possibilities of the impending advances, there is mounting concern about the disconnect, communication, and loss of humanity. Do You Keep In Touch With Friends By Checking Their Facebook Profiles?

It is always fun to see what our friends are up to online, but we cannot confuse a newsfeed for two-way communication. Pay attention to how often you say things like, “I saw on Facebook/Instagram/Snapchat that you XYZ?” Or, and this is more challenging, consider how often you read into and draw conclusions about what you see about friends and family on social media—and then pass that information along as fact. Have you considered what this means in regards to your level of genuine connection?

While the Internet has strong reporting power, and most major news sources have custom websites that deliver their news to a global audience—there is a lot of false news that goes viral. Do you know how to identify if the information you read or the videos you watch online are fact or fiction?

There is certainly a lot of food for thought in the information above. Even if you have maintained a strong level of human connection in your everyday life, as technology advances—it will take conscious effort to maintain.
