Badhkal Lake: An Overview

·         Located in Badhkal village which is approximately 6 km from the city of Faridabad, Badkhal Lake was a natural lake once. Built in the year 1947, it is surrounded by Aravali Range on all sides. The name of the Badhkal Lake is derived from the Persian word ‘bedakhal’ which translates to free from interference. In recent years, due to the reckless mining in the neighbouring areas, the lake has dried up entirely.

·         If you are visiting Badhkal Lake, you will find numerous restaurants nearby.  Apart from this, you can witness a flower show here which happens in the spring season every year and attracts a lot of tourists from all across the country. You can also take a short trip to the nearby Peacock Lake and spend your day amidst natural splendour.

·         Badhkal Lake was once famous for boating and other tourism-related activities. Also, a lot of migratory birds used to come here but since the lake has completely dried up, there is no sign of migratory birds now. Interestingly, this didn’t stop the tourists from visiting the lake.

What to expect?

It will hardly take you half an hour from Delhi to reach Badhkal Lake. Whether you want to take the Mathura Road or Surajkund Road, the choice is yours. Once you reach there, you will be greeted by the locals. You will be welcomed by camels and horses as well. Since there is no water in the lake, you can easily walk down into the dried up bed of the lake which is mostly covered with shrubs. If you love adventures, you can also climb the surrounding rocky hills and turn your trip into an adventurous one. For photography enthusiasts too, the place is a gold-mine.

Whether you are staying in Faridabad or you have already booked a hotel in Gurgaon, India, you won’t face any difficulty in reaching the Badhkal Lake from both the cities. Additionally, make sure that you carry enough food and water with you on your trip to Badhkal Lake especially in the summer season.
