A small conversation between an instructor and ac client to begin with:

Instructor- Which yoga class would you like to join? Hot yoga or Hot Bikram Yoga

Client- Both are the same so we will join any of them.

Instructor – What? Scratches his brain

It is just one example but every day the staff members at the yoga studio meet people like this.

People love fitness and try every step to stay fit but commit mistakes due to a lack of information just like it happened here. If we are not wrong, you might also commit the same mistake.

We understand that the names are almost similar but if you research in-depth, you will find lots of differences between them. Both the yoga types will help you lose weight and are performed in a heated room to make you sweat but still, there are lots of differences between the two.

Ø  Difference based on poses

Bikram yoga consists of 26 poses and 2 breathing exercise that which is performed in the same order in every class for exactly 90minutes. On the other hand, the poses are fixed in hot yoga and can vary from one yoga studio to another.

Ø  Difference based on room temperature

The temperature of the room in hot Bikram yoga is heated to 105 degrees with 40% humidity whereas room in hot yoga is heated between 80 -100 degrees and with no fixed percentage for humidity. The yoga studios adjust the humidity as per the requirement.

Ø  Difference based on lighting and other arrangements

The room for hot Bikram yoga has carpet on the floors with mirrors on the walls. Also, the light is very bright. In hot yoga, the room does not have carpet and yoga is performed on any surface. Also, the light is very dim or you can say candle lights are used.

Ø  Difference based on the training and qualification of the instructor

Any qualified yoga trainer can be an instructor for the hot yoga session. He/She does not require any affiliation to start a hot yoga studio. On the other hand, the instructor for hot Bikram yoga must be trained by Bikram Choudhary or his disciples and the studios must be affiliated with his name.

Ø  Difference based on yoga sessions

The hot Bikram yoga is a kind of silent yoga where there is no music, clapping or any other mode of noise. You will be surprised to know that students are not allowed to talk during the Bikram yoga session. On the other hand, music is played in the hot yoga session and is concluded with a round of applause. You can even interact with other students and the instructor.

These a few differences between the hot Bikram yoga and hot yoga so you should be very careful when selecting the viable option otherwise you will also repeat the same mistake that the client did in the above conversation.

At last, one useful tip for you:

Both the yoga forms are intense so we recommend consulting your doctor knowing your health conditions before starting the classes.
