This infographic at the end of this article is a true eye-opener for anyone who has tried to diet, holiday diet or thought they were eating healthy foods.

Within the image are popular foods that we all eat and you won’t believe the truth about them.

For years we have tried to do the healthy option by looking out for foods with diet varieties or low fat varieties. The problem here though is that when a low-fat food is created the fat is removed and replaced with salt and sugar. Hence low fat foods are high in calories and may lead to weight gain not weight loss.

The high levels of salt in these foods are also for concern. High levels of salt in a diet have been linked to raised blood pressure and heart disease.

Diet varieties of food are also a problem for dieters and those trying to get the pounds off on a holiday diet. Recent research has shown that the chemicals used in sweeteners actually stop your body loosing weight and when consumed a hormone is released that stimulates your bodies ability to absorb more sugar from the food you eat.

A great example of one the foods in the infographic.

Orange Juice – What could be healthier you ask?

Fruit juices as a whole are sweetened with sugars and research has even showed that a glass of juice may contain 50% more sugar than a regular can of Coca-Cola. Worse still most varieties have their pulp removed, which is a great source of fibre and protein. Unfortunately consumers also count fruit juice as one of their 5-a-day and this really doesn’t meet the grade.

Browse and share the infographic if you wish and remember the key to a diet and healthy foods are use fresh and buy unprocessed foods even if it means making a large batch of a dish at the weekend and using it in the week to save time. If you do this then moderate your portion sizes and you will be on the road to success.
