Did you know about these in Amsterdam

by Andy Jordan Digital Marketing

Amsterdam is the Netherlands’ capital, known for its artistic heritage, elaborate canal system and narrow houses with gabled facades and legacies of the city’s 17th-century Golden Age. Its Museum District houses; the Van Gogh Museum, works by Rembrandt and Vermeer at the Rijksmuseum, and modern art at the Stedelijk are amazing artworks. There are numerous bike paths as cycling is the key attribute of the city. The major attractions of Amsterdam for making a perfect Amsterdam weekend breaks are:-

De Jordon

Saturdays are the best time to visit De Jordon when one can find busy markets at Lindergracht and Noorderkerk. The friendly canals, beautiful galleries, intruding side streets, unique shops and inviting cafes are all that make De Jordon. The thin canals and streets of Jordon are fringed with boutiques, pubs and eateries. The markets are flooded with clothes, jewellery, antiques, organic food and contemporary art. Major attractions of the place are Houseboat Museum and Amsterdam Cheese Museum.

The Negen Straatjes (Nine Little Streets)

It is the canal district of Amsterdam and the area is known as Nine Little Streets. It is called so as it consists of Nine Little Streets, all with hand-laid brickwork, namely Prinsengracht, Herengracht, Keizersgracht, and Singel which are far-famed for their unique names since the 1990s. There are many diverse shops and many big and small restaurants. This place is also a hub of designer boutiques, classical stores and speciality shops.

De Pijp

The narrow streets of De Pijp are flanked with old-school pubs, cafes, Middle Eastern eateries and sidewalk terraces. The stallholders at Albert Cuypmarket sell the delicious waffles and herrings. This district of De Pijp is also called Pipe sometimes, owing to its narrow streets. It is the most happening quarter in the whole Amsterdam and an eating out point. The cafes are mostly open the whole night. This place is the home of the artists and a place called Sarphatipark is also here which features English style gardens with beautiful ponds and meadows.

Oostelijk Havengebied (Eastern Docklands)

Eastern Docklands offers the opportunity to amaze at its contemporary architecture like the Openbare Bibliotheek and the enticing Python Bridge with a stylish collection of restaurants, cafes, bars and pubs. Here, one can find a smart collection of galleries and shops as well as children friendly science centre NEMO and National Maritime Museum accounts as one of the best European city break deals.

The Red Light District

The Red Light District is the 500-year-old district of live sex shows, lap dancing, sparsely clad women lurking through windows and more.  Amsterdam’s infamous Red Light district is a celebration of that which is a taboo otherwise. The haze filled coffee shops, shadowed bars, strip shows and incredible museums. One should be cautious of the pickpockets while sauntering in this area.

Begijnhof

Begijnhof is one of the best-known hofjes (almhouses). It is a group of houses constructed around a secluded yard and garden which provide humble homes for the Beguines – a group of unmarried pious women who live together in a confined community and maintain chastity. Bagijnhof dates back to the 15th century. The Civic Guards Gallery of old portraits is an impressive art gallery of old men and women. This gallery is easily accessible to people from Begijnhof through a huge glass, situated at the far end of the courtyard.

There could be many destinations in your mind when you are planning for holidays, but the thrill and excitement which cheap city breaks to Amsterdam offer with a whole lot of variety is unmatched.
