XAT also known as Xavier Aptitude Test is a national level aptitude test conducted by XLRI every year on behalf of the XAMI, to choose suitable management students for management programs in XLRI, and other reputed institutes e.g. Goa Institute of Management and Xavier Institute of Management. XAT is a difficult exam, which score is also used by more than 100 management schools in India, to select management students.

Eligibility for XAT 2016
A candidate must have completed his/her Bachelor’s degree (at least 3 years duration or equivalent) in any discipline. People who are to complete their final degree exam by 10-06-2016 are also eligible to apply.
NRI and Foreign candidates may apply with GMAT scores. However, people who are in Dubai and Kathmandu need to sit for the XAT 2016 exam, as they have an option to write the test.
XAT 2016 exam pattern
There is no pattern change in XAT exam, as compared to previous year. It is a paper-pen based exam, which consists of two papers – Paper I and Paper II. In an endeavor to provide the same level playing field to underprivileged students, the exam mode of XAT is kept as paper-based test. So that students who have earlier access to computers doesn’t have an advantage over students who doesn’t have access to modern tools and gadgets. Also, students will be gauged based on their performance on the same set of questions.
XAT exam basically tests a candidate on the following components:
Quantitative Ability
English Language & Logical Reasoning
Decision Making
GK
Essay
If you look at the Paper I of XAT exam, there are a total of 84 questions which is divided into three sections.
Section A – Verbal and Logical Ability (28 questions)
Section B – Decision Making and Analytical Reasoning (23 questions)
Section C – Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation (33 questions)
The total duration for Paper I is 140 minutes (2 hr 20 minutes). All questions carry the same mark. There is negative marking, for each wrong answer 0.25 mark shall be deducted. Candidates must use a blue or black ball pen and use the OMR sheet to deeply mark the answers.
The Paper II consists of General Knowledge and Essay Writing, which is of 40 minutes duration. The GK section will have 30 questions which need to be answered in 20 minutes. In the Essay Writing section, an essay has to be written within 20 minutes.
