Does your bedroom have that comfort and serenity that you crave at the end of a tiring day? Do you wake up every morning feeling revived and refreshed? If not, perhaps it’s time to change your bedroom and design it in Fengshui style.

Fengshui, which roughly translates to Wind and Water, was practiced by people in ancient China. The philosophy behind Fengshui refers to integrating people with their environment and this balance could only be achieved when positive Chi (Life force) flows in our homes. Pallavi Chhelavda, a Fengshui consultant, believes that if Fengshui is incorporated in every part of our house, it could turn the course of our lives in the right direction.

Fengshui services by Pallavi Chhelavda have turned many bedrooms into a warm and serene haven. Following are the techniques that she used:

1.    Position of the bed:

According to Fengshui, your bed must be positioned in a way that you have a clear sight of the entrance; but at the same time, it should be located as far away from the bedroom door as possible. This position enables a person to feel safe and rested; whereas a wrong position could jeopardize the health of inhabitants. The most appropriate place for the bed is to be diagonally across the door, whereas following positions should be avoided:

·        The placement of the bed on the opposite side of the door, as it is called a coffin position and is ill-fated

·        Placement of the bed along the same wall as that of a bathroom

·        Placing the mattress on the floor blocks the path of Chi energy and should be avoided at all costs.

·        Window is the source of Chi energy, as it leaves and enters through it. If your bed is placed directly underneath a window, it will cause restlessness during sleep.

2.    Colors:

Colors of the bedroom must be soothing, so that it gives off a warm and welcoming aura to the room. Best colors for bedroom range from pale white to rich chocolate brown and every color in between.

3.    Lights:

Light is another source of positive energy in the room. Therefore, the lights in your bedroom must be soft and balanced. Toxin free candles are the best source of light. It has a soft hue, creating an intimate, warm, and healing atmosphere. Night lamps on both sides of the bed and dimmer switch could also be installed in the bedroom to create a warm atmosphere.

4.    Clutter-free:

In order to create a balanced energy in the room, it must be clutter free. Clear all the papers, work related equipment, dirt, and dust from the room. These things create stagnant energy. Just walking into a cluttered room creates stress; rather than releasing it.

5.    A warm enclosure:

To get a warm sanctuary-like feeling and to strengthen the flow of energy in your bedroom, take extra care to keep all the bedroom doors closed at night; including that of your closet and bathroom. This creates nourishment of energy and helps in promoting the health of people living within.
