While several types of dairy products are obviously available, there are two products that are very popular. These are butter and cheese. The question we may rightly ask is “why do we need to eat butter and cheese?”

The Many Advantages of Eating Butter

There are several advantages of eating butter. Our ancestors used to eat it several thousands of years ago although perhaps it was in the form of ghee that butter used to be consumed. It is due to the considered purity of ghee that it formed a part of all religious functions wherever fire was present. Somewhere down the line butter fell in bad days and by 1960 its consumption in the US had dropped from 18lb per person per year to just 4lb. The reason was that Ancel Keys, a researcher, was the first to propose that it was the cholesterol and saturated fat in one’s diet that were the cause of CAD or coronary heart disease. However, though Americans drastically reduced their intake of saturated fats, there was a surge in cases of diabetes, obesity and heart disease. Today, we know that:

  • Butter is rich in Vitamin A that is essential for thyroid and adrenal health

  • Saturated fats in butter possess strong anti-cancer and anti-tumour properties

  • Butter is a rich source of the vital mineral Selenium as well as Vitamins E and K

  • It also contains conjugated linoleic acid that is a potent muscle builder, anti-cancer agent as well as immunity booster.

  • It contains lauric acid that is important in the treatment of fungal infections.

  • It also contains anti-oxidants that provide protection against damage due to free radicals.

  • The vitamin D in butter is necessary for the absorption of calcium.

  • The cholesterol found in butter is necessary for your children’s brains and nervous system.

Cheese is Also Very Good for you

Danish scientists found that when selected men ate full fat cheese in ten daily 1oz servings nothing adverse happened to their LDL or bad cholesterol. There is also no conclusive evidence to indicate that saturated fat is the cause of heart disease. But, the advantages are:

  • Cheese is high in saturated fat that raises your HDL

  • It is also a good source of protein that helps in building your muscle.

  • This includes the muscles in your heart and stomach.

  • Cheese is high in Calcium and Vitamin A.

  • It is rich in phosphorus that is the basic building block of the DNA.

  • Cheese is known to have a weight loss benefit.

  • It helps in regulating your blood sugar and

  • Is a significant source of Omega 3 fats.

The consumption of dairy products is good for the health of your family. Today there are several options of purchasing these online.
