Common Types of Commercial Air Conditioning

by GDY Airtech Enterprises Consultant

We all agree that one of the most vital equipment needed for commercial buildings is proper air conditioning, especially when you are in a tropical country like the Philippines.

Whether you own a high story building or a one-room coffee shop, the kind of air conditioning you have in your space can make or break your business.

But did you know that there are various types of cooling and heating options for commercial buildings? Here are three of the most commonly used systems:

· Split System Air-conditioning

· Multi-Split System Air Conditioning

· VRF or VRV Air Conditioning

In this article, you will know the difference between these configurations, including the pros and cons. Read more to know what type of commercial air conditioner in Davao will best suit your commercial space.

Split System Air conditioning

One of the best features of split system air conditioning that you will notice right away is its versatility and design. It is clean, sleek, and can be placed on top of the wall, away from the line of sight of the people or customers. It is designed to be unobtrusive so that can blend with modern or minimalist design.

Compared to traditional air conditioning, split types are virtually noiseless too. All you can hear is the soft blow of air indoors making it perfect for working spaces and coffee shops.

Most split type air conditioning systems have inverter technology, so generally, it is also energy efficient. It can detect the temperature of the room and will adjust accordingly.

On the other hand, one of the outright disadvantages of split type systems is that the total unit cost can be very expensive. It requires ongoing maintenance and the outside condenser is quite huge and too industrial, making it not so pleasant to look at and quite a space-eater.

Multi-Split System Air Conditioning

Multi-split type of system is somehow similar to split type except that multi-split can cool up to nine doors at a time using only a single compressor.

This is best for those who own multiple rooms with different functions. Plus, because of its integrated inverter technology, you don’t have to manually adjust each room. This also means it is energy-efficient

However, the problem with the multi-split type of system is that when the compressor is broken, you can’t heat or cool the whole building until you fix it. This also means that you need constant maintenance if you do not want your air conditioning to die in the middle of summer.

Also, the outdoor air compressor needs to be strategically placed near the indoor air outlets, which can make it kind of an eyesore.  With that, you may want to install it away from bedrooms, living rooms, or the outdoor entertaining spaces.

VRF and VRV Air Conditioning

Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) and Variable Refrigerant Volume (VRV) Air Conditioning is like an upgrade of the multi-split air conditioning system. Popular among buildings or spaces where the occupancy is constantly changing, VRF and VRV provide extreme efficiency, comfort, and reliability.

VRV and VRF commercial systems will adapt to any floor plan, regardless of the level of the building. Moreover, VRV and VRF function quietly, making it perfect for office buildings. It delivers the ultimate temperature comfort and will only distribute the required amount of refrigerant making it versatile and energy efficient.

But of course, this kind of system has its disadvantages, too. This includes its price when installed upfront. A system-wide failure may cause a disruption to the whole system, so you need to have a backup unit in case this happens. Also, this system is high-risk of refrigerant leaks which may result in health problems.

Conclusion

Yes, there may be tons of heating and air conditioning systems in Davao but not all of them are reliable. So here is a piece of important advice: talk to a professional about it. They will not only give you reliable data, but you will also avoid committing mistakes that you will regret in the future.
