Clearing up Three Misconceptions about Plumbers

by Kevin Smith Author

We would all be lost without plumbers, or at least we would live in a much less sanitary world. Yet, plumbers often do not get the respect they deserve. If you are looking for skilled plumbing in Roswell, GA, here are three things your average plumber wants you to know.

They Almost Always Function in a Crisis

Almost none of us call up a plumber when our drains are cleared, faucets are performing beautifully and water pressure is right where we like it. We call them when stuff is falling apart, plumbing wise. They are walking into a crisis and have to calm the homeowner, figure out the problem and how to fix it, usually in a very short period of time.

Their Charges Are Based on Working in Crisis Mode

A lot of people get sticker shock when they get their plumbing bill. The reason it is pretty sizeable is that the problem usually has created a crisis, the plumber is there on short notice and the lack of the ability to schedule in advance makes puts a premium on their time.

Plumbers mostly save the day. They clear a clog, unstop a toilet, replace a pump, stuff you did not plan on having to do, but have to get fixed or you risk more damage. That usually means getting a job on very short notice with no planning regarding logistics; that drives up the cost quite a bit. Finally, because it is an emergency and homeowners rarely plan a clog in advance, their time is subject to demand, which is usually high.

DIY’ers Usually Make Things Worse

Most of the public likes to think it is handy. Most of the public is not. This is especially true if the task at hand requires specialized skills they have not been educated on. Plumbing is one such area where a DIY’er can really create a mess a professional plumber can avoid.

The issue is the specialization. Plumbers know sizing requirements, pressure ranges, piping maintenance, etc. that the laymen do not. The next time you have a plumbing problem and are tempted to fix it yourself, ask yourself “would I be ok with my plumber coming into my work and doing it for me.” The answer to that question in most cases is a key as to whether you should tackle all but the most simple plumbing crises by yourself.

Plumbing is vital to our way of life. Plumbers help us out of a crisis. These three things hopefully have given you a more educated perspective about plumbing in Roswell, GA and why some things are what they are.
