Art, in its various forms – photographs, oil paintings on canvas, digital art, sculptures, decorative pots, and more – has become a staple element of modern day home decor. It has the power to create a spectacle, and add character to living spaces at the same time. Choosing the right art and then displaying it appropriately requires a bit of creativity and imagination.

Check out these tips to help you with the feat.

Choosing the Right Artwork

Best thing about art? You have the freedom to explore décor possibilities and experiment new ideas. When choosing art work for home décor:

·         Do not limit yourself to one art form. Select a mixture of photographs, paintings, even sculptures to decorate your walls with.

·         Narrow your search down by focusing on a genre you prefer: nature, abstract, contemporary, or rustic. Center your efforts collecting aesthetics that layer into a beautiful tapestry for your room.

·         Make sure that each piece you pick holds value and meaning for you. It should be a depiction of your character and likings.

·         Picking original artwork by the same artist adds cohesiveness to the overall look of your room. If you can’t find artwork from the same artist, try finding similar artwork from other sources.

·         Before you set out shopping for your artwork, determine the available spaces you have to display art. Buy art that is the right size for your spaces.

·         If you are buying contemporary or abstract art, remember – size matters! The bigger the art piece, the greater the impact.

Displaying Your Artwork

There is no restrictions or rule books to follow when it comes to hanging art. There are two things that you need to keep in mind: your art should be visible; and it should not look out of place. Take a look at these tips:

·         Center your artwork at eye level. Consider the living space it is intended for; whether you’d spend more time standing or sitting in there. Once you determine the eye-level height, hang the artwork accordingly.

·         When hanging art above a piece of furniture, like a sofa or a credenza, make sure the edge of your frame is about 6 to 12 inches above the furniture.

·         If you have smaller art pieces of the same dimensions and orientation, grid them up to add a structured look. Create an artsy wall collage with the ones sized differently.
