Choosing a Motability Car

by Joshua Smith Owner
Choosing a car is sometimes a bit of a chore. It doesn’t help that there are a lot of brands with different shapes, sizes, and specifications. A major determinant however, is the cost of the car. Most people would simply just choose a car they can comfortably afford but even if you do that, the chance that there are still a lot of cars that fit your price is still very high. Choosing a Motability car is no different as you also have a lot of options. So, if you’re going to get a Motability car, here are a few things to consider.

A Test Drive

You have to be sure that you would be allowed to test drive the car you are going to choose. You don’t want to purchase a Motability car to help you move around if driving it is going to be difficult. You need a car that will be comfortable for you to drive especially if you’re going to need to drive it over long distances, so you don’t tire out unnecessarily.

Size

Don’t make the assumption that your day to day equipment will fit into the car you want to choose if you haven’t tried it out yet. Carry your equipment to the dealership and check properly. Check the boot space and the interior of the car, specifically, and see if it has enough for your equipment e.g. a wheelchair. If it doesn’t, no matter how much you love the car, you need to choose a bigger one. You need a comfortable car more than anything else.

Transmission

You don’t want to get a car with manual transmission if that’s not what you need. Also, in many cases, cars with automatic transmission usually cost a little more than their manual versions. You also need to keep this in mind. If it would be too expensive, you can keep this same specification and then find another car that will work within your budget. Whatever you do, do not overlook the transmission of your car.

Other Adaptations

Choosing a Motability car is very personal. Depending on your needs, you might need some modifications to your car. It could be simple extras like the extent to which seats are adjustable, or whether or not you want electric windows. It could also be something a bit more complex like completely removing something from the car to give you more space for one reason or the other. Most adaptations are possible and can be handled by the dealer. However, it may come with some more cost implications. Sometimes, there already is a car that fits your needs. This is a reason why you need to speak to an experienced and professional dealer about all your needs and let them help you choose a car that works for you. The Sandown-group is a Motability dealer that can help you handle all your needs and adaptations. Feel free to start a conversation with them today.

Always keep in mind that the Motability car you use is basically for your comfort and not necessarily for luxury. If you always remember this, you will be sure to make the right decision on what car to use and will enjoy the use for a long time.
