Whilst the price of a bottle of wine can have a huge impact upon our perception of the wine's quality, price should never be the most important consideration when purchasing a great bottle of wine. You could pay a large amount of money for a vintage bottle, then learn that you don't actually like it.

There are plenty of mid range priced options offering excellent quality and value, but you first need to establish the kind of wine you have a preference for, because it can be quite an overwhelming experience, trying to select the perfect bottle for yourself or someone else, with such a vast variety to choose from.

You may feel that you only like white, rose, or red wines, but until you have properly explored a huge variety of different wines from the numerous wine making areas across the globe in great depth, you could be missing out on great finds. To truly explore what is on offer, you need to embark on a wine tasting journey to experience lots of wines made using all over the globe.

Growing conditions differ in each location so not only can the flavour of wine be altered by the variety of grape that is used, but also by the different growing conditions in different locations. The flavour of the bottled product is altered an affected by the different soil types and local weather conditions, in addition to the different growing and production methods. Just weather conditions will singly result in a very different end result, produced with the identical vines and exact same methods, in the exact same region from one year to the next.

To find out about the different wines, look at the information on the labels. The place of origin, and the alcohol content for example will always be displayed clearly.

If you enjoy drinking wine as a couple, or when socialising with family and friends, you can have a great time experimenting with a mini wine tour of your own. It is great when you identify a new variety that you enjoy and a brilliant way to educate yourself about wine. You can gather new knowledge first hand of the different regions and types of wine. When armed with all of this information and experience, it is surprisingly more straightforward to shop for wine for yourself or anyone else.

Keep in mind that if you are going to store wine for any period of time, you must make sure you keep it in the right conditions. The majority of us do not own purpose made wine fridges in our homes, but as long as you keep your wine in a suitably cool, dark place, where it can be stored horizontally, your wine should not become spoilt.
