Indian Institute of Management (IIM), will conduct Common Admission Test (CAT), for admission of candidates into 2016-17 session. Colleges across the nation will participate in exam, to fill Postgraduate Managements seat with worthy aspirants. Authority have not released any news regarding CAT 2015, but on the basis of details, of CAT 2014, we have summarized important facts regarding CAT exam, in article below.

CAT 2015

CAT is a national level exam, which is conducted every year. It is regarded as one of the toughest exam conducted in India, scores of which are considered by B-Schools all across the nation. Focus of the exam is to segregate aspirants on the basis of their Verbal and Logical Ability, along Data Interpretation and Quantitative Skills.
Though it is conducted by IIMs, but every year any one IIM takes the responsibility to conduct the exam, like in 2014, IIM Indore looked after the all the formalities to conduct it. Notification for this year, will be issued in due course.

Who Can Write CAT 2015 – Eligibility Criteria


Like any other exam, it is absolutely necessary to satisfy the pre-determined CAT 2015 eligibility criteria. Ineligible candidates will be restricted form writing the exam.

 Criteria which aspirants need to fulfill, is as below:


Candidates must have completed graduation form a recognized University and must posses a valid Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent) for it. Also, it is required that candidates must have score 55% or more, in qualifying exam 45% for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates.

Candidates who will be appearing for final year of Bachelor’s Degree program or will be awaiting result, may apply as well.

At various stages IIM will cross-check candidate’s eligibility. So, it is advised that candidates do not try to fool the authority. It will harm your candidature.

Equivalent Degree include:

1. B.Tech Degree
2. Any Association of Indian Universities New Delhi, recognized qualification, which is equal to Bachelor’s Degree presented by UGC.

Provision of Reservation in CAT 2015

CAT 2015 reservation of seats criteria, is as laid by Government of India. 15% seats will be reserved for Schedule Caste (SC) candidates, 7.5% for Schedule Tribes (ST) candidates and 27% seats for Other Backward Classes (Non- creamy layer OBC) candidates. Also, 3% seats will be reserved for PwD/ DA candidates, who will be certified as 40% or more disable.

Candidates claiming category, will have to fulfill the minimum eligibility criteria. Also, once category claimed, no provision will be granted to alter it. Candidates must also be noted that category should be noted with Government of India and candidate claiming it posses a valid certificate to prove it.

CAT 2015 Application Procedure


Things required to be kept ready before filling CAT 2015 Application Form:

1. Valid E-mail Id and Phone Number
2. Relevant educational documents (class X, XII and Graduation Degree etc)
3. Work Experience Documents
4. Required Certificates to upload
5. Scanned photograph and signature
6. Names of IIM program to which candidate wish to apply
7. Name of desired exam center

Registration for CAT 2015 will be online only. Conducting authority do not provide any other medium to apply for CAT 2015. For submitting application request, candidates will have to:

  • Access the official website
  • Then, navigate link to fill CAT 2015 Application Form
  • Candidate will be asked to register themselves by providing few information.
  • During registration procedure id and password will be created, which must be used to login and fill details in application form.
  • Next step is to upload scanned images of photograph and signature, along required documents.
  • Final step to submit form and pay application fee.

It is important to ensure that information submitted must be authentic. Candidature will be at risk, if candidate try to feed in misleading details.

Dimension of Scanned Photograph and Signature:

  • It is important to upload image of photograph and signature in authorized format, else it might lead to rejection of application form. Prescribed format to submit photo and signature, is as below:
  • Passport size photograph must be of minimum dimension, 35mm X 45mm, along minimum resolution of 150px/inch.
  • Signature of candidate should be neatly written and scanned in f 80mm X 35mm dimension.
  • File format must be in .jpge or .jpg and file size must not exceed 80 KB.

Other Documents to be Uploaded During CAT 2015 Form Filling

  • Certificate of Category (for NC-OBC/SC/ST candidates)
  • Medical Certificate (for PwD/ DA candidates)
  • Class X and XII Marks Sheet
  • Graduation Degree
  • Master’s Degree (if any)
  • Professional Details (if applicable)

CAT 2015 Application Fee

Online portal will be the only medium provided to remit application fee, which will be around Rs. 1600 (for General candidates) and Rs. 800 (for SC/ ST/ PwD candidates). Candidates may either use Net Banking or pay it via Debit or Credit Card.

Apart from fee, candidates will also have to pay transaction processing charges. It will be as below:


1. For Visa, MasterCard based Credit Card: 1.2 % + taxes
2. Visa, MasterCard based Debit Card: 0.85 % + taxes Or 1.1 % taxes
3. American Express / Diner’s Cards: 2.85 % + taxes
4. Net/ Internet Banking: Rs.20 + taxes

CAT 2015 Admit Card


Like all the other formalities, CAT 2015 hall ticket will also be issued online. Authority will not send, to candidates, admit card at their postal address or registered id. Candidate will be able to download admit card, somewhere in the month of October 2015.

Permission to enter exam hall will be granted against it only. So, it is advised that candidates secure it properly. Also, candidates might need it during further admission formalities as well.

CAT 2015 Exam Pattern

IIMs have prepared a very well defined pattern for CAT. Highlights of CAT 2015 exam pattern are as below:

Exam will be of 2 hours 50 minutes (170 minutes)
Test will be unilingual, in English only.
It will be divided in two sections: Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation and Verbal Ability and Logical Reasoning
Both the sections will be comprise of 50 questions each.
For correct answer 3 marks will be allotted.
For marking wrong answer, under the norm of negative marking, 1 mark will be deducted.
Candidates will have to attempt all the questions. If candidates leave a question (or questions) unmarked, marks will be neither be allotted nor deducted.

CAT 2015 Result

Authority will issue CAT 2015 result, till end of December. Candidates will be able to check it against registration number and registered e-mail address.
It will be hosted as scorecard, which will be valid only for an year. It will contain candidate’s score in each section and over all percentile. Candidates must secure it safely, as it might be required during admission into various colleges.

CAT 2015 – IIM Selection Procedure

After the issuance of result, each IIM will issue list of shortlisted candidates. These candidates will be invited for Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI) round. Each IIM will have their own criteria to select candidates for admission. Candidates may attain details regarding it, from the official website.
