Immigrants with work experience in any skilled sector are invited to apply for permanent residence in Canada through the Express Entry system, although expertise in Canada Occupation in-demand list 2022 may be advantageous at the provincial level. Federal and provincial economic immigration channels exist in Canada, each with work experience requirements.

The Federal Talented Worker Program (FSWP) is the primary source of skilled immigrants seeking a PR visa in Canada. One of the critical prerequisites for this program is that you have job experience in one of the 347 qualifying occupations. The Canada PR visa process is open to qualified immigrants with the appropriate work experience in Canada Occupation in Demand List.

What is NOC?

The National Occupation Classification is a classification system used by Canada's federal government to provide a framework for evaluating and analyzing professions across the country. The NOC code is a four-digit combination. The first digit of a NOC indicates the profession/occupation:

0 – Management Occupations

1 – Business, finance, and administration occupations

2 – Applied and Natural sciences and any relation occupations

3 – Health occupation

4 – Occupations in education, law, school, community, and government services

5 – Occupations in art, culture, recreation, and sport

6 – Sales and service occupations

7 – Transport, equipment, and trade operated and any related occupations

8 – Natural resources, agriculture, and related production occupations

9 – Occupations in manufacturing and utilities

NOC has different skill levels that are based on the type of occupation. The Government of Canada uses National Occupational Classification (NOC) system to classify occupations. Jobs are grouped based on the type of:

· job duties

· work a person does

For immigration purposes, the main job groups are:

· Skill Type 0 (zero): management jobs, such as:

o restaurant managers

o mine managers

o shore captains (fishing)

· Skill Level A: professional jobs that usually call for a degree from a university, such as:

o doctors

o dentists

o architects

· Skill Level B: technical jobs and skilled trades that usually call for a college diploma or training as an apprentice, such as:

o chefs

o plumbers

o electricians

· Skill Level C: intermediate jobs that usually call for high school and/or job-specific training, such as:

o industrial butchers

o long-haul truck drivers

o food and beverage servers

· Skill Level D: labour jobs that usually give on-the-job training, such as:

o fruit pickers

o cleaning staff

o oil field workers

The various immigration programs use the NOC to decide if a job or type of work experience meets their eligibility. The “skilled” jobs are those with NOC Skill Type 0, A or B.

How to find your NOC to apply for Canada PR?

The following minimal conditions must be met in order to apply for a Canada PR visa.

· A minimum of one year of continuous work experience or equivalent part-time work experience in any of the 347 NOC (National Occupational Classification) qualifying jobs within the last ten years

· Must be at least 18 years old

· In the FSWP points assessment grid, score at least 67 out of 100

· IELTS score of at least 6 in each band

· A significant settlement fund is required

· Submit a PCC and a medical check-up
