With presidential elections on the horizon, Google searches for moving to Canada have hit an all-time high. During the year of presidential elections, Canada has continuously become the topic of interest for escaping this country’s politics — joke or not — but it seems this year people are getting serious and Canada is getting serious right back.

While Americans fear the triumph of Trump for U.S. president they have began seriously considering moving to Canada and marketing agencies from the country are reaching out with some interesting advertisements and websites that welcome Americans right in.

A website for Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia — in particular — has recently surfaced, inviting people in with the line “Cape Breton if Donald Trump Wins,” but ladies and gentlemen, what may sound like a joke, is actually the real deal.

These website marketing agencies have gotten serious for this years election, providing information on both immigration and housing. The website also features beautiful pictures portraying life on the island and encouraging statements such as: “Don’t wait until Donald Trump is elected for president to find somewhere else to live.”

Marketing agencies have also launched other websites such as movetocanadaeh.com that reads on the home page ‘Why not move to Canada eh?” These sites may look like they are having a little too much fun with the situation but the approach might just be brilliant for saving an island that has a decreasing population. Whether or not people will really take them up on the offer if Trump wins is the big question.

It wasn’t until the results from Super Tuesday’s primaries and caucuses were released that the Internet was flooded with searches related to moving to Canada. More specifically, searches for “how can I move to Canada” on Google spiked over 350 percent post Super Tuesday.

Overall, searches for “move to Canada” have hit an all-time high on Google. Even more interesting, the searches are trending heavily in states such as Massachusetts, Virginia, Illinois, Minnesota and Tennessee. In fact, so many people are looking into Canada’s immigration site that they “broke the internet” — so to say — when warning signs began popping up about experiencing delays due to too many people visiting the page at once.

Of course marketing agencies have always had their fun during presidential election years in terms of “making Canada even greater,” but thanks to Trump, Americans are getting serious about making the big move and Canada is welcoming them with open arms. So America, should Trump take the White House in this year’s election, Cape Breton is welcoming you if you chose to flee. Good luck everyone.
