Business Strategy Versus Marketing Strategy

by Fusion 360 Studios Digital Marketing Specialists

As a company continues to expand its business, they try and figure out how to continue their growth. A business strategy is one of the first things you set up when you start a business. Other pieces start falling into place including a marketing strategy. While these two strategies are different in purpose, they should be strategically used together to expand your business.

A question you may want to ask when setting up a marketing strategy, is if you should find one of the marketing companies in your area to create the perfect marketing strategy for your company. Creating a marketing strategy isn’t easy and it may be necessary to get professional help to first get your business up and going.

The biggest difference between these two strategies is that one focuses more on the sales and development of the company and the other is creating a brand. With two different focuses, these two strategies actually need to work in tandem for a company or business to function.

Many marketing companies claim that it is the sole reason why companies continue to function and bring in more customers. The truth is marketing is in the service of the overall business strategy. The marketing strategy should define the approach for effective campaigns to be executed.

Puneet Manchanda, area chair of marketing at the University of Michigan said, “Marketing strategy is completely intertwined with business strategy. Unless a firm has a clear marketing strategy, it cannot claim to have a business strategy.”

Essentially, Manchanda says that the marketing strategy strengthens the business strategy. Without a business strategy there would never be a marketing strategy to come up with. Marketing companies are used as another building stone to complete the foundation of the business plan and helps it function.

Your business should never look at your business strategy and marketing strategy as one being better than the other. The business strategy is the foundation of the business that gives direction to all the other working parts of the business. The marketing strategy builds upon that foundation and continues to strengthen the business strategy to work as designed.

Marketing companies help businesses define their marketing strategy by understanding their business strategy. If you are looking for help in building up the foundation of your business, talk to some professionals at a marketing agency or company near you, who can analyze your business strategy and find the best marketing strategy.
