Biaxially Oriented Polypropylene (BOPP) Film Manufacturing in India

Biaxially oriented polypropylene is defined as a material to various people come in contact and that too on a regular basis and can be used at a number of processes such as metalizing, packaging, labeling etc. it is commonly found in candy wrappers, vitamin packs, CDs and DVDs. Their thickness ranges from 6 mic to 50 mic and the width goes from 64 to 1540 mm, their treatment can be carried out for one or both sides and it finishes up all glossy, clear or hazy and they can be found in colors of pearlised and white.


 
The BIAX BOPP, as they call it is produced on a sophisticated equipment, which are are said to be designed for a better machine ability, a high barrier property, superior gloss and clarity and a high speed packing and specialist over the wrapping applications. These films are extremely versatile and they are drawn out in many types such as:

1. Packaging films: the BOPP packaging films are being used on a large scale today and are present in different types concentrating on packaging, label, sensitive and things of the same type. These films ensure that a proper readability is maintained even after transportation of the products. Some other characteristics of this film is the impeccable clarity, resistance, strength and it being flexible and waterproof.
 
The other types of packaging film would be the hot sealable films and the non- hot sealable films.

2. Print lamination films: they are the ones that ensure the better printability which will afterwards assure the best quality of the film as it is handed over. The types of this film are the gloss films, matte films, silky matte films and velvet touch films.

3. Label films: they are the wrapped label on the product used mainly when packaging. Colours can be chosen according to your product. The types of label films are the clear film, the opaque film, the metalized film and the in- mold label.

The films can be fitted for a variety of packaging material such as adhesive tape, bakery products, biscuits, cigarette overwraps, confectionary, print lamination, processed foods, salted snacks and many more.

There are many companies that deal in its making. The Cosmo Films` shared the packaging and it increased from 35%-55% after the effective merger on September 20, 2002 with the Gujrat Propack. They recently raised a loan of Rs. 80 crore so as to expand their plan as well as pay of the debts left with the merger company. The other sources of funding in the merger were International Finance Corporation, Rabo Bank and the Exim bank. Flex Industries and Max India are also the major partners in this field with their share as 22% and 14% respectively.
