Beach, Hotel, Surf, Dining and More at Sayulita Nayarit Mexico

by Wesley Jones Sayulita Guide

Sayulita is one of the most exciting and resourceful destination in Mexico, and one of the most demanded after the popular Cancun Riviera Maya.

Located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico, on the sunny and lush Riviera Nayarit, Sayulita has mostly been known as the best surfing spot in Mexico.

And it is indeed the surfers’ mecca with something like 18 surfing spots for every level of difficulties, all year round.

However, in the past few years the quirky town has been put on the map of different kinds of travelers in search of a laid back beach life, good vibes, sun and fun, and not necessarily in search of a swell.

Indeed, Sayulita offers all of that and more.

An array of water sport activities such as paddleboard, snorkeling, kayaking, besides hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking, are available to entertain yourself in case the beach is not enough.

The surroundings of Sayulita are also very interesting as the little cosmopolitan town is nearby amazing places to visit, such as:

Islas Marietas – a small groups of islands, located in a protected marine park and therefore with a very interesting marine life to watch while snorkeling, not to mention the worldly famous love beach, a stunning beach inside a crater. The access had been closed for a while in order to keep the area protected and undisturbed and now opened but with more accessibility restriction including an increase of price, but definitely worth the tour.

Punta Mita – one of the most luxurious destination in Mexico, with stunning hotels and their private beaches, exclusive shops and the finest restaurants

Puerto Vallarta – the friendly city of Puerto Vallarta is located at one hour bus from Sayulita and definitely worth a visit.

San Pancho - a tiny town at 5 minutes bus ride from Sayulita cannot be missed as well, be it for the stunning infinite beach or for its quiet and serene life. It is also one of the surfing spots available.

Safety and Practical tips

Sayulita is a relatively safe place. Locals and expatriates have created a harmonious and happy community that, in cooperation with the local police, patrolling beaches and streets 24/7, are doing an amazing job in keeping the crime level very low. It is very important, however to observe common sense rules that will help you to stay away from troubles. Those are:

1.       Don’t get involved in drug issues, either for personal consumption or smuggling

2.       Make sure when you exceed in drinking you are surrounded by real friends that take care of you.

3.       Don’t walk around in isolated and dark roads

4.       Keep your value in the safe in your hotel room and take with you only the necessary money and documents.

5.       Don’t drink tap water. Make sure you always carry with you bottled water

6.       Use sunscreen, even if it’s cloudy.

7.       Buy a travel insurance before traveling. You never know what can happen and private health is very expensive in Mexico

Emergency Sayulita Beach Numbers

It is convenient to keep emergency numbers handy:

o   066 from any standard line and 080 from a Mexican cell phone to call for any kinds of emergency. They will redirect your call according to the case, police, hospital, firefighters…

o   The Sayulita area has recently implemented 911 for this area, so you can call 911 in an emergency.
