Hand block printing comprises of a set of technique through which the carved wooden blocks are put in dye and are repeatedly pressed along the length of cloth to create beautiful patterns and designs. Although this technique of hand block is over 2000 years old, it started developing in China and people started to get their dresses hand block painted.

The contrasting colors do the magic and make many designs on different material. The hand block printing that is famous in Jaipur is Bangru, Sanganer, Pali and Barmer. The city of Barmer creates the red chillies prints with blue-black outlines that are surrounded by the flowers laden trees.

Even in Mdhya Pradesh these prints are quite famous and are created by the community member of printers known as Cheppa. They make use of vegetable to make colors. Hand block printing sarees have always been a type of wear that reflected elegance and grace. The motifs and thethree-dimensional effect make the hand block printing saree look classy. Many designers have used this work in different material with tassel, beads and ‘Gotapatti’ work to give a heavy look.
