All about whole grains – Why you should eat it?
Whole grains are very healthy and for good reason. Many Ayurveda doctor recommends in their Ayurveda webinar in Canada and Ayurveda Seminar in Canada that these are one of the best sources of complex carbohydrates which is necessary for energy. Whole grains are also high in proteins, minerals, vitamins, and many other substances that are important for our healthy body and balanced nutrition.
Whole grains are whole and unrefined. These are intact and they contain the bran, the germ, and the endosperm. Bran is the outer layer of the grain and it contains fibre, vitamin B, minerals, and phytochemicals. The germ is the small inside portion of the grain which contains B Vitamins, Vitamin E, Trace minerals, healthy fats, and antioxidants. The most common foods that we see only contain the endosperm, and this can reduce the total nutrient content of the body by 90 percent.
There are different types of whole grains:
Brown rice
Oatmeal
Popcorn
Wild rice
Buckwheat
Kamut
Whole rye
Millet
Whole grain corn
Bulgur
Triticale
Whole grains contain five times more antioxidants than fruits and vegetables. In the Ayurveda seminar in Canada, doctors say that whole grains can protect the body against cell damage. Eating the whole grains in day to day life can help to protect the body from the following diseases:
Heart disease
High cholesterol
Stroke
Obesity
Constipation
Types of cancer
High blood pressure
Diverticulosis
Hemorrhoids
Whole grains are an excellent source of fibre but, not all whole grains are good sources of fibre. Whole wheat contains the highest amount of fibre of the whole grains. Brown rice contains the least. Doctors in Ayurveda webinar in Canada also said that it is whole grains are not necessarily brown, or multigrain, or only found in adult cereals. You can find throughout the food supply, including many processed foods.
Recently, there has been an increase in whole-grain options in products ranging from pasta to most cereals. However, many restaurants also offer brown rice and other whole-grain options. For whole-grain nutrition without the “grainy” taste, there are newly reformulated products that use lighter whole kinds of wheat and new techniques and methods for processing to make them look and taste more like white flour.
In the Ayurveda seminar in Canada, doctors said that the amount of grains you need daily depends on your age, gender, and physical activity level, but whole grains should make up half of your grain intake.
