Avoiding Slip and Fall Accidents
At least once in their lives, many people find themselves on the ground, possibly in pain, with no recollection of how they got there. A slip and fall accident can oftentimes be a very tricky situation when a workplace or business is involved. In Utah and other states, a lawsuit for an accident such as this is commonplace. Whether the problem is an uneven surface or even ice, here are some tips for avoiding accidents in the workplace.
Identify Common Causes
For many people, it seems like common sense to address an issue that can lead to a slip and fall accident. States like Utah get very cold in the winter, and sidewalks and entryways should always be salted to prevent ice from forming / causing people to fall.
Other common causes for accidents include greasy and wet floors, uneven walking surfaces, missing or irregular stairs, dirty shoes, electrical cords, open drawers and wet leaves. Surprisingly, the most stereotypical symbol of tripping is the banana, which isn’t among most common causes.
Prepare in Advance
Good housekeeping is one of the best ways to prevent a slip and fall. Companies in Utah and other states should be sure that their facilities are clean and well organized. Responsibilities should be assigned and programs should be made to make sure that the work environment is always suitably safe. Plans should be made to keep parking lots, sidewalks, food preparation areas, shower stalls and flooring to be kept clean dry.
Proper Footwear
Many people have tripped on untied shoelaces. Employees and visitors should wear appropriate footwear to make sure that falls that can prevented are. Heels and old shoes are especially at risk. This can be hard to control for visitors, but employees should be well advised.
With these tips, each company should be able to reduce slipping and falling around the workplace.
