Argyle Diamonds Tender – When it All Started
Valued for their wonderful beauty and ability to
display timeless grace, pink Argyle
diamonds found only in Australia are among the most sought-after gemstones
in the world. They are one of a kind and rare and can be acquired by only a few
people. In lieu of this Rio Tinto Pink Diamond Tender was formed about 30 years
ago. It is one of the exclusive events in the diamond world and since inception
has auctioned over hundreds of diamonds. Each year the tender invites few lucky
people who have the means and interest to invest in these precious diamonds.
Many of the invitees are diamond dealers while others are high net worth
investors.
Let’s look back at the
history when it all started.
The first Argyle tender was held in Antwerp, Belgium
in 1984 and since then it started growing in popularity and held many previews
throughout the world including cultural and financial hot spots such as London,
New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Geneva and Perth. Each tender showcases unique
diamonds ranging from 35 to 70 coloured stones. Among these diamonds, the
majority ones showcased are pink, red, purple and blue and always include a
selected handful of the featured stones.
Some of the most famous
diamonds that have been offered at the tender:
In 2014, the tender offered 3 pink diamonds namely the
Argyle Cardinal 1.21 carat, Rosette 2.17 carat and Toki 1.59 carat diamonds.
In 2015, the tender was debuted at Sydney Opera House
offering 5 diamonds including Argyle Allegro 0.79 carat, Aurora 1.7 carat,
Eleve 1.44 carat, Prima 1.20 carat and Spectre 1.93 carat diamonds.
In 2016, the tender for the first time in history featured
gems exclusively from the mine’s underground expansion named as The Chroma
Collection. The 5 special diamonds showcased were Argyle Violet 2.83 carat,
Ultra 1.11 carat, Viva 1.2 carat, Thea 2.24 and Aria 1.09 carat diamonds.
