Apple Is Entering the Video World
Binge-watching television series has become a recent phenomenon due to easy access to shows through Netflix or Hulu. Netflix hosts a wide range of films from big names such as “Jerry McGuire” and “Legally Blonde” to lesser known films like “The World’s Fastest Indian”, a story about a New Zealander that builds an Indian Motorcycle which he rode to set a world record in the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
Apple has recently announced that they will be joining in on the late night television streaming by creating their own video production facility. Because Apple Music’s success, which barely launched and will soon be available to Android users, Apple will now be adding video to their lengthy resume of user content.
In the beginning, Netflix was used as a way for viewers to watch movies and television series that had already produced. In the more recent years, Netflix as well as Hulu have started producing their own content in their own video production facilities. These original productions include “Orange is the New Black”, which has now won several awards. Apple is hoping to gain equal if not more success with the opening of their own video production facility.
Although it has been announced that Apple will have it’s own way of streaming videos, it has not been mentioned when or where this new way of viewing our favorite shows will launch. It has been reported by an Apple executive that streaming could launch as early as next year.
According to Statista’s Digital Market Outlook, video streaming is expected to grow by $6 billion between 2014 and 2020. This growth is expected to dramatically decrease the use of music streaming and is growing four times faster than the music market. Because of this dramatic increase, it would be wise for Apple to join in on the rapid growth of video production.
Apple, which is one of the greatest technical forces in the world, has the power to drastically diminish the use of video production and streaming through Netflix and Hulu. With Apple’s entrance into filming, the streamlining of Apple products will only make it easier to binge-watch our favorite programs. Video streaming as we know it could be changed and the term “Netflix and chill” could become a term of the past.
