Another rip off
They say you are not really paranoid if everybody IS out to get you. That is how I am feeling right now.
I have noticed that a few small USA sharketers are trying to rip people off if the live in an area with a local currency that is of higher value than the US$ but was staggered when I received the same treatment from what I had considered to be a legitimate enterprise.
I was looking to buy Snagit, a screen capture and image editing suite of software. At $49.95 it seemed a bit rich for me but a friend was going to help. We went to order the software and thought nothing of it when asked where we lived "so that the price could be corrected". Obviously we expected the $ price to be converted to €.
It was converted all right - to €49.95!!!
This is a blatant rip off if not out.right thievery. The effective surcharge for living in Europe and wanting to buy a digital product from USA is 30%! There are no additional benefits or expenses to be covered so no justification.
Another internet rip off!

There is Something for Everyone
I hope you know how to deal with it the next time you want to buy something online.

Just plain honesty
Snagit is not free although I believe it was possible to get version 7 free through Cnet a while ago.
TechSmith, the authors of Snagit use the excuse that they are unable to change the prices on their web site but, that is more to do with their expertise and inteligence rather than actuality.
There is no reason at all for any company to charge different prices in different countries - most purchasers will be able to pay in US$.
It is far simpler to not buy the product than to go to the bother

Arthur, as you're living in Spain I guess you would have to report this to the Sapnish or even to the EU Trade Commission. I had some similar experiences, but not such extreme ones.

Arthur I would definitely be reporting this on to the FTC!
