An Overview of Spray Insulation UK

During World War II polyurethane was beginning to see many new uses. One of the discoveries while experimenting with polyurethane was that if you mix resin with a surfactant or “blowing agent” the mixture would create thousands of tiny bubbles or “closed cells” which act as an excellent water barrier as well as insulator. Once these two chemicals are mixed, the liquid rises like dough and is fully activated in approximately 5 seconds. In just over 30 seconds, the foam is cured and can be walked on.

A spray insulation system is just that, a spray system! All other roofs do not function as a complete system, meaning that this roof or loft must be applied in pieces. Whether it is a plastic sheet that is custom-built for your roof, tar & gravel or a roof heated to bond, all but an SPF roof are applied piece by piece using caulking, hot tar, or a number of other temporary glues, mastic & caulking.
