Air Compressor And Its Four Main Types You Must Know

by milton ferrara CEO

Air compressor conserves a lot of air in a storage tank thereby increasing the pressure. It is a device that transforms power into potential energy preserved in compressed air. All this is done by using gasoline or diesel, an electric motor and an engine in its body. The compressed air system helps to convert low pressure gas to high pressure gas.

The following are the 4 main types of air compressors:

1.      The Positive Displacement Compressors (PDC)

You can obtain little information on this type using a lot of websites such as fluidairedynamics.com. These compressors take in a variety of different air compressors that help to generate power through displacement of air. These air compressors work with the same principle; however, they come with different internal mechanisms. Air which is brought from outside is stored in the cavity inside that slowly gets compressed due to the increased air pressure and potential energy. This type works better for construction business.

2.      Rotary Screw Compressors (RSC)

This device is designed for large construction sites where huge power is required. These are the easiest of all the other types as they can be looked after easily due to its well-equipped internal cooling system. They are normally larger in size made for industrial purposes that can be maintained using a lubricant for its long runtime.

3.      Reciprocating Compressors (RC)

These are made for smaller sites particularly for home renovations. You can also find these in garages. This is not designed for continuous work load. It has a piston inside a cylinder that compresses the air to generate pressure. If your business requires more power, you can opt for multi-stage compressors. Single-stage compressors can do smaller tasks such as metal working or wood cutting whereas multi-stage compressors are used for intense construction work.

4.      Dynamic Compressors (DC)

Dynamic compressors build horsepower with the help of its rotating blades. They further restrict the air to build pressure. This kinetic energy is stored as static energy inside the compressor. These types of compressors are also known as centrifugal or turbo compressors that continuously bring in air by its rotating blades. They are designed for large-scale industries of steel or chemical plants.
