About Covid-19

by Med Test Med Test

For the last few months, people all over the world have been fighting an invisible force.

The novel coronavirus or COVID- 19 has indeed challenged the humanity that led to severe conditions.

COVID-19 quite famously renowned as Novel Coronavirus is a newly discovered illness which was first identified amid the outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan City, China. The illness was initially reported on 31 December 2019 to WHO, and exactly after one month, i.e. 30 January 2020, WHO declared COVID-19 as a Global Pandemic.

People suffering from it experience mild to moderate respiratory issues and recover without any special treatment.

The virus is known to spread primarily through droplets of saliva or nasal discharge from an infected person, therefore it is important to practise social distancing in these challenging times.

At this point, the whole world is going through a serious outbreak where both the government and people are taking maximum safety measures to protect themselves. According to the recent report, the disease has spread to more than 200 countries and territories; Italy and the US have been affected the most. In the UK, there have been 219,183 confirmed cases as of May 9. Although despite implementing strict quarantine for all the citizens, the number of cases has been considerably higher.

The effect of such an outbreak on the economy is also outrageous. The banks in England have warned that the pandemic will surely drive the UK economy at its deepest recession. The economy shrinks by 2.9% in the first 2020 quarter. That will push the UK into a technical recession defined as two successive quarters of economic decline.

The Prime Minister Boris Johnson has initiated a lockdown since march 23 stating that police will have the power to fine people who will be seen gathering in groups. He also stated that people who face any kind of symptoms should get themselves tested and remain quarantined. On seeing the massive loss on the economy, the Prime Minister is working on some tentative steps to ease some strict lockdown measures, and eventually begin to reopen society. He encouraged people who cannot work at home to go back to work but avoid taking public transport, and practise maximum necessary precautions. Schools are likely to open by June 1st, and some hospitality places will be open in July. According to the Prime Minister, the lockdown cannot end in one day, instead, careful steps to modify the measure must be taken.

The testing for this has been speeding up in the UK lately. The Prime Minister had instructed to open many test centres primarily to test the patients and spread awareness. COVID-19 Testing Centre Gillingham has been one of these renowned centres. The UK government aims at as much testing as possible to figure out the exact number of cases coming every day. Around 122,000 tests were carried out by the end of April, passing the government’s target of testing.

The health ministry stands firm on its approach of perpetual testing and reducing the transmission of disease. They suggest that people with early symptoms should quarantine themselves for 14 days straight to avoid any further problematic conditions. As there is no vaccine developed at this moment, quarantine and maintaining good hygiene is the only option left. Although the health care system of the UK is putting up their best efforts in developing a vaccine, as the Prime Minister hopes for the vaccine soon, claiming it as the only solution to fight this invisible problem.
