Are goals really as important as many management gurus make them out to be?Does one need to have goals to become successful? Isn’tpassion, a burning desire and hard work good enough to achieve success? Management gurus believe that while many qualities are needed for success,Goal-setting is perhaps essential to be super successful. Darren Hardy, the author of DESIGNING THE BELL TEN YEARS OF YOUR LIFE, makes a compelling case for goal setting. He adds, “withoutgoals, your life is like a boat without rudder. You drift along with the current, inevitably crashing against rocks time again. Proper goal setting puts you in a speedboat and gives you a target to steer towards. You will directly reach your destination and with great speed."

Many of us have heard of the famous Harvard Business School study about goals. There are those who have found no solid evidence that such a study was conducted, and declare it an urban legend it might be, but the findings were a little interesting.

if we want our children to benefit from goals, we need to start working with our children at a young age to help them set goals. We could start with one small goal, and once that is achieved, a bigger goal must be set, forexample, if a child does not like Mathematics, there is no point in setting a goal achieving A grade in the next assessment. Setting a goal of enjoying Mathematics by making it more interesting, he or she herself will aim to improve his or her grades and in time realise the value of goal setting.

Goals can take men to where no man has gone before, make adversaries co-operate transform nations, changelives, so why are we waiting to acquaint our children with the magic of goals?
