When one considers pursuing engineering, the choice of the branch can be utterly confusing at times. The choice of the branch should be based on the type of technology you wish to study. So, described below are the details about one such branch of engineering that is Electronics and Communication Engineering.

What is Electronics and Communication Engineering about?

Electronics and Communication Engineering involves studying the design, development, and implementation of the systems that aid the effective communication. It is more of an integrated branch that takes in the principles of electronics engineering and some or the other principles of other branches like Computer Science and Engineering, to formulate communication circuits.

Courses similar to Electronics and Communication Engineering

· Electronics and Telecommunication

Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering is a near branch of ECE. A lot of subjects are in common in these two branches but ETE especially focuses on topics like Analog Electronic Circuits, Microprocessor, Digital & Switching Circuits and Systems, Linear IC Systems, Power Electronics, and Embedded System etc. ETE can be regarded as a part of ECE.

· Electronics Engineering

Electronics Engineering is the parent branch of the integrated branch of ECE. The basic concepts of analogue and digital signal transfer are derived from this branch.

Additionally, Electronics and Communication Engineering borrows a lot of concepts from Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering.

Career Prospects after Electronics and Communication Engineering

Another question that baffles every student pursuing the programme is that what the career prospects are after the completion of the course. So, described below are possible choices of career after pursuing ECE.

· Research

Anyone interested in exploring the development and testing circuits then you can consider research. One can appear for GATE to seek internships and jobs in government institutes that conduct research. Or you can pursue PhD after post-graduation and then go ahead for the post of a senior researcher.

· Post-graduation

If you wish to become a lecturer in a prestigious engineering institute, then you can pursue post-graduation in the subject of your choice. Once done with the post-graduation you can pursue PhD and can become a lecturer. During M Tech you would be stipend as well and would get to deliver lectures.

· A job in public sector or private sector

At last and the least, you can also work for the public sector or the private sector companies. For seeking a job in PSUs, you would need to appear for GATE and as for private sector companies you can rely on your college placement or can also appear for walk interviews.

Things to Check in college before seeking admission

Since your college plays a significant amount of role in defining your career and understanding of the subjects, it is important that you check these 3 things about your college:

· The college infrastructure

If you are moving to a new city to pursue the programme, ensure that the college infrastructure of equipped with all the needed amenities.

· The Faculty and labs

Do not forget to take a look at the labs and the educational qualification of the faculty.

· The placement record

Do check the number of companies that visit the college campus during the placement season. You can infer the kind of opportunities that you would have during placement.
