A Beginner’s Guide to 3x3 Rubik’s Cube

by Pravin Dwivedi Digital Marketing Expert

Kids Rubik's Cube is one of the most popular puzzle toy played by kids around the world. Knowing how to solve a Rubik's cube requires specific mental exercises beneficial for a kid's growth. It is a cubical structure with various colored square stickers on its faces—the general task to keep the same color stickers on the same face of the cube. In this article today, we will discuss how to solve a 3x3 Rubik's cube by understanding its general theory. So without any further delay, let us get started!

Know About Rubik's Cube

Before knowing how to solve the cube, knowing it better is the primary task. Before twisting & turning the cube, first analyze the current placement of colors on each face. There is a total of eight corner pieces. Color locations are always the same in all the Rubik's cube. For example, green is opposite to blue, orange opposite to red, and white opposite yellow. After getting this basic knowledge regarding the cube, solving it becomes easier.

Now when you are holding the cube in front of you with its logo facing the top, each side/face of the cube is represented with a letter as follows-

R- the right side

L- the left side

U- the upper side

D- the down side

F- the front side

B- the back side

Another combination of these sides of the cube is their counterclockwise rotation. In this case, the letter is represented as 'i.' Suppose, if there is a move where the right side of the cube is rotated counterclockwise, it is denoted as 'Ri.' Now, understanding solution algorithms for Rubik's cube would be pretty convenient and understandable. Now let's have a look at an easy stepwise process of Rubik's cube solution.

The White Cross

The secondary step involved in solving a Rubik’s cube is to make a white cross on the top side of the cube. This strategy is mastered by practice and does not use any algorithms. It is purely based on trial and error methods.

White Corners

As we know that corner pieces have three colors. And so now, if we focus on white corner pieces and manage to bring them on the top side of the cube, the entire top will fill with the white color.

Middle Layer

Just a few more steps to go in solving a Rubik's cube successfully. In this step, hold your cube with the down-side of the cube on the top. That means the white side solved in the previous step will go down here. Now you need to focus on the middle layer by positioning the edge pieces having two colors at their respective places.

Top Layer

In this step, you will make all yellow face the top side the same as you made the white cross in the earlier stage. Focus only on bringing all yellow squares together without making any additional changes. After getting done with a yellow cross, try to make the corners yellow. After successfully doing so, the Rubik's cube is solved in no time. At first, it may sound a little complex, but you can be a pro at it with constant practice.
