New Memoir By El Falcon Rojo Run Like a Raramuri Celebrates Indigenous Wisdom, Endurance, and Giving Back
For readers seeking a story of movement, meaning, and generosity, Run Like a Rarámuri offers a powerful invitation to run not faster, but deeper — and to give back with every step. All proceeds support nonprofit work honoring the Rarámuri community of Mexico’s Sierra Tarahumara
Run Like a Rarámuri: Stories and Wisdoms from the Sierra Tarahumara and Running Long by El Falcon Rojo is now available worldwide. Independently published, this deeply personal memoir blends storytelling, spiritual reflection, and lived experience drawn from more than fifteen years spent living, running, and learning alongside the Rarámuri people of Mexico’s Copper Canyons.
Continuing the story the world first glimpsed in Born to Run, Run Like a Rarámuri offers readers an intimate look into a culture where running is not about competition or accolades, but about connection, community, and prayer in motion. Through vivid narratives and interwoven “Wisdoms,” the book explores what it means to live with gratitude, endurance, and generosity in a fast-changing world.
At the heart of the book is the Rarámuri concept of Korima, the belief in sharing and mutual exchange. This philosophy flows through every chapter, revealing a way of life where giving freely strengthens community and replaces rivalry with collective joy. The author reflects on his own transformation, moving from endurance as achievement to running as communion with people, land, and spirit.
The memoir does not shy away from hardship. Alongside moments of laughter, shared meals, and celebration, it acknowledges loss, grief, and the challenges faced by remote communities navigating modern pressures. What emerges is a powerful portrait of resilience, humility, and spiritual endurance.
All proceeds from Run Like a Rarámuri benefit True Messages, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to honoring, celebrating, and supporting the Rarámuri people and their culture in the Sierra Tarahumara.
About the Author
Michael, known in the Sierra as El Falcon Rojo, first traveled to the Sierra
Tarahumara with his wife Kimberly over fifteen years ago to participate in the
legendary Caballo Blanco Ultra Marathon. Invited by Micah True to run and
celebrate alongside Rarámuri athletes, the experience sparked a lifelong
commitment to the land and its people. A veteran of over 500 races, including
more than 150 ultramarathons, Michael now spends several months each year
living and running in the canyons. He co-founded the nonprofit True Messages to
continue honoring the values, wisdom, and legacy of the Rarámuri community.
