We all know the saying “what goes around comes around”, but it seems to have become more prevalent than ever in the last few years. Fed up of the direction that the modern world is going in, being absorbed in mobile phones and connections to community diminishing, people are starting to revert back to old habits. We’re all here for it, so let's see if any of these traditions might help you to feel inspired!

Old-school alarm clocks

As part of the digital detox, many people are moving back towards old school alarm clocks. Mobile phones are so convenient, as everything you need is in one place, however that’s also their own downfall. When we become so reliant on our phones, we turn to it at every corner, including before bed and first thing in the morning. However, the blue light from our screens can disrupt our sleep cycle, then when we wake up and reach straight for our phone, it can affect our attention span for the rest of the day.

So instead, people are leaving their phone in a different room an hour before bed and setting their old-school alarm clock, so they can sleep better and wake up more naturally.

Getting milk in glass bottles delivered!

Another great old-school tradition that is coming back, and one of our favourites, is the milkman! Family-run companies like McQueens Dairies are delivering milk to your door before 7am, in fresh glass bottles. You don’t need to worry about running out of milk or waking up to find you can’t have your morning cup of coffee, as it’ll be sitting on your doorstep by 7am. Not only do you get the fresh taste of milk in glass bottles, but it also helps the environment, as you’re reducing single use plastics. Make this swap and you won’t look back!

Cooking and baking from scratch

With more people wanting to reduce the amount of ultra-processed foods they’re eating, they’re favouring cooking and baking from scratch at home more! Swapping pre-made sauces for homemade versions with fewer preservatives, making homemade birthday cakes to use more natural sugars, and focusing on more wholefoods like fresh fruits and vegetables are all on their way back in! There are such positive health benefits that come with this, as you know exactly what is going into your food, and it’s a good opportunity to try out new recipes for or with your friends and family!

Film cameras

Last but not least, film cameras are making a big comeback! Everyone takes hundreds of photos on their phones without much thought, so the creativity and effort that goes into photography is also limited. For people wanting to put more time into this and to take photos that truly matter, they’re getting film cameras and film, and as a result, are forced into taking beautiful photos of select memories, rather than endless photos they’ll rarely look back at.
