India’s Efforts to Improve Workforce Skills with Global Help
Working with Other Countries
- India is working with global groups to fill skill gaps in its workforce.
- The Ministry of Labour and Employment is leading this effort.
- Recent meetings with ILO, OECD, and Germany took place during the G20 employment meeting in South Africa.
Skill Gap Mapping Study
- A study will check which job skills are missing in three areas:
- Information Technology (IT)
- Green Jobs (jobs that help the environment)
- Care-related jobs (like nursing and elderly care)
- India will pay €810,000 for this study.
- The final report will be shared with G20 nations by June 2026.
- This will help Indian workers find jobs in other countries.
Working with the Netherlands
- India and the Netherlands talked about:
- Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) (how to measure poverty better).
- Living Wages (making sure workers earn enough to live well).
- The ILO and the Netherlands will help India improve wages.
Partnership with Germany
- India and Germany signed an agreement in October 2024.
- They will work together on:
- Global supply chains (how products are made and sold worldwide).
- Artificial Intelligence (AI) that focuses on people.
- The gig economy (short-term and freelance jobs).
- India plans to support new ideas and make jobs better.
Using Technology for Workers
- India introduced two important websites to help workers:
- eShram Portal – A national database for unorganised workers, giving them access to social security.
- National Career Service (NCS) Portal – Helps job seekers find work, listing 440 million vacancies and 4 million employers.
Why This Matters
- India is serious about improving worker skills and job opportunities.
- Global teamwork will help Indian workers get better jobs.
- This will increase employment and boost India’s economy.
