6 Tips to Steam Clean Carpet

by John Thomas Author

Carpet is an expensive material and so you would definitely not want to risk steam cleaning carpet yourself unless you are aware of what you are doing. Improper technique and equipment may cause the material to re-soil quickly or cause eternal damage. Here are some suggestions on how to steam clean a carpet.

  • The first thing you need to focus on is a portable steam cleaner. Look for an equipment that does a great job in removing soil, removing water and retaining the fiber surface. It should remove maximum water without damaging the appearance of the carpet and allowing the carpet the dry within twenty-four hours. Overeating or prolonged wetness may cause mold to grow in the carpet. However, it is essential for you to know that if the steam cleaner is not that powerful in extracting cleaning solution, the floor covering will re-soil sooner.

  • Opt to steam clean a carpet at a time when it can dry faster. You would definitely not want a humid weather outside while drying.

  • Use a cleaning solution in small amounts. It must contain a pH of less than ten so that the rug dyes and fibers are not affected negatively.

  • Remove all kinds of objects and furniture from the flooring. This will allow you to clean the material in an efficient way making it easier to see dirt in high-traffic regions. Then comes the use of the steam cleaner.

  • Fill in the water container of the steam cleaner with hot water. Add cleaning solution, as advised by the manufacturer. Start cleaning the room’s area from doorway and move backwards making sure you don’t walk on your cleaned carpeting. Extract cleaning solution as much as you can by going over the flooring a number of times. Then rinse it with normal water. Cleaning solution plays a big role in attracting the soil particles and removing them from carpet fibers. If it is left anywhere and not rinsed properly, it will keep on attracting dirt after steam cleaning carpet.

  • Make sure to turn on the AC and fans for drying the material more rapidly after hot water extraction. You can even turn on the dehumidifier.

However, if you do not have much time in cleaning your carpet, you can use the professional services of a cheap carpet cleaning in Melbourne.
