The average student has at least 16 years in school learning to read, do complex math, express ideas, and have become a bright and accomplished person. One thing that wasn’t taught during these years was how to figure out what to do now. Many young people stumble through their careers by grabbing an opportunity. Thinking the job is okay, they let the movement push them to keep going.

In the past, this made a lot of sense because it involved a good salary and benefits package with a retirement plan thrown in. Today, if a person isn’t working at their dream job, eventually it will be lost to somebody else who sees it as his dream job. The goal must be to find that perfect dream job.

Here are some suggestions as to deciding what road to take to find the job that fulfills the dream.

1. Find out what you love

Most people starting out don’t know what job they would choose if they could choose anything.  This is a sad thing because the odds of getting that job are zilch if a person doesn’t have a very clear idea of what makes up their dream job. People need to figure out what interests them the most and what makes them the happiest. Then put them all together and create a job description just for them.

2. Be prepared to let it go

Before attaining the dream job, some things may have to be sacrificed like resorting to eating Top Ramen instead of eating out. Not everyone has to make sacrifices but should always be prepared just in case. The most important thing is to be willing to forgo certain things if needed.  It comes down to this, if a person isn’t inclined to surrender some things, they may not ever achieve their goal of a dream job.

3. Learn to sell yourself

Learning to sell is the basis of this process. People have to learn to sell their ideas, themselves, and the value of the services offered. All of these traits should be featured when writing CV which will help carry one to the dream job. If it’s something really state-of-the-art, it will be of no use if the idea can’t be sold to the bankers, clients, or in a job interview.

4. Create a plan

A lot of people tend to think too much when creating their plan. It’s vital to have one that’s based on the most creative ideas of where the path needs to go. Don’t make it too complicated and don’t wait to act because it’s not the “perfect” plan. The least important part of the scheme is the boxes that get checked off on the way to the goal. The plan puts the preliminary action into context and gives people something to alter and adjust as they make progress. This helps one to learn what is working and what isn’t.

5. Share your talents

Don’t’ think of a career as a job. It’s something that will allow a person to share their abilities with everyone. The word “job” sounds horrible, boring, and not any fun. Imagine working in a career where passion is felt. When a person’s unique gifts are realized, they need to visualize work that’s inspiring happiness, contentment, and exciting.  Imagine being passionate every day at this dream job. Make sure the CV reflects all talents and the passion for the position.

6. Go for it

Everybody looking for their dream job has to have the courage to take that leap of faith. It requires believing in oneself and selling that to others. So, send in that perfectly written CV, accept the interview, and go for it!
