6 healthy snacks for the movie nights

by John B. Professional Writer
Going to the cinema or spending the evening watching films or series at home is one of our favourite plans. If it's also yours, you'll know that at these times you always feel like snacking on something tasty. The problem is that the most common thing is to resort to ultra-processed foods loaded with poor quality ingredients such as popcorn, sweets or chocolate bars. So, if you want to enjoy this plan without harming your health, here is a selection of healthy snacks for the cinema.

1. Healthy popcorn
If you love the most classic snack for watching films, you're in luck because you don't have to give it up. However, you can't buy it in a bag at the supermarket or at the cinema because in those cases they usually add bad quality oils such as palm or sunflower oil and a lot of salt. The idea is to buy the corn and make them at home. You can make them in a microwave-safe bag, a silicone popcorn popper or opt for the traditional method and make them in a frying pan or pot. Either way, you can add a little extra virgin olive oil, a pinch of salt and spices to taste (curry, oregano, pepper, hot paprika...) Delicious!

2. Homemade nachos with guacamole
As you read it, it is also possible to make healthy nachos. How? With cornflour, water and spices such as paprika or curry to give them a little colour. It's as simple as mixing the amount of flour you want with a similar amount of water, the spice of your choice and a pinch of salt until you get a homogeneous paste. Then make one or more balls of the dough depending on the quantity and roll them out with a rolling pin into a thin pancake. Cut the dough into triangles and heat a non-stick frying pan without oil. Toast the nachos on both sides for a few minutes.

To serve, you can make a homemade guacamole with avocado, a squeeze of lime, onion, garlic powder, pepper and salt. Oh, and if you have cilantro, even better. If you go to the cinema, you can put the guacamole in a small jar and the nachos in a tupper or bag. No excuses!

3. Dark chocolate conguitos
You only need two ingredients: peanuts and dark chocolate with a cocoa content of more than 70%. The process is very simple, just peel the peanuts, melt the chocolate in a bain-marie or in the microwave and dip the peanuts in it. Then put them in the fridge until the chocolate hardens and enjoy! If you feel like it, you can also try with other nuts (almonds, pistachios...) and add other toppings such as grated coconut.

4. Baked potato crisps
It is also possible to make a healthy version of potato crisps. Peel 1 or 2 large potatoes and slice them as thinly as possible. Then put them in a dish of very cold water (you can add ice) to remove the starch. After this, dry them with a cloth and you can bake them in the oven or in the microwave. For the microwave, place them separately on a plate with baking paper on maximum power for about 7 minutes, making sure they don't burn. The same for the oven, but with a brush of oil and at 160º for about 40 minutes. When they are done, you can add the spices you like best.

5. Kale chips
This snack is perfect for those looking for an alternative to crisps. How is it made? Very simple: wash several kale leaves, dry them and place them on a baking tray. You can add a little extra virgin olive oil, some spices (curry, cumin, pepper...) and salt. Mix everything well so that all the leaves get the flavour and bake for about 10 minutes at 180º. Simple and delicious!

6. Apple with cinnamon and peanut butter
If you're more of a fruit person, this snack is for you. Peel 1 or 2 apples and cut them into sticks. To prevent them from oxidising, add a squeeze of lemon juice. Then put the sticks in a bowl and add as much cinnamon as you like and roll them in it. To make the combination even more delicious, dip the sticks in peanut butter. Just make sure that the only ingredient in your spread is peanuts to keep it healthy.

Another option is to slice the apples into wedges, coat them in cinnamon and bake them in the oven for about 1 hour at 200°C. It's your choice! Both options can be easily taken to the cinema or enjoyed at home.
